Taylor Swift is famous for hinting about her past relationships in her songs, but surprisingly, she remains on good terms with some of her ex-boyfriends. One of her well-known romances was with Harry Styles, another pop star. They dated briefly from late 2012 to early 2013. Despite their breakup, Styles had no issue with Swift writing songs about their relationship, possibly because he is also a songwriter.

Styles admitted in August 2013 that it would be hypocritical of him to say she couldn't write songs based on personal experience. "Everybody does it," he acknowledged. He also mentioned that he wouldn't have dated someone less famous just to avoid it.

During the same interview, Styles complimented her skill in crafting lyrics. He jokingly remarked, "Well, at least she's a great songwriter!"

The former Disney star and Cats actress dated in 2008. Swift later revealed that Jonas broke up with her over a 27-second phone call. Despite their rocky past, the two managed to move forward from their complicated relationship. In May 2019, Swift acknowledged that her behavior towards Jonas was a bit excessive. When asked by Ellen DeGeneres about the "most rebellious thing" she did as a teenager, Swift admitted to publicly calling out Joe Jonas on her show. She reflected, "That was too much. I was 18. We laugh about it now, but … that was mouthy. Just some teenage stuff there.”

A month later, Jonas expressed that it was comforting to hear that Swift had some regrets about their past. During an interview with ITV's Lorraine in June 2019, Jonas shared, "It’s something that I probably was feeling bad about when I was younger, but at the end of the day, I’ve moved on and I’m sure Taylor’s moved on and it feels nice." He added, "We’re all friends and it’s all good.”

When Jonas and Turner welcomed their first child in July 2020, fans speculated that Swift sent them a baby gift inspired by a line in her song "Invisible Strings." A year later, Jonas was seen at an afterparty following Swift's appearance on SNL in November 2021.

Even after Jonas and his ex, Sophie Turner, parted ways in 2023, Swift continued to support the actress through the breakup.

Despite their split, Swift referred to Lautner as "one of my best friends" in an interview with Glamour in October 2010. She expressed her gratitude for their close relationship, saying, "He's wonderful, and we'll always be close. I'm so thankful for that."

There don't appear to be any lingering hard feelings between Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift, but Lautner also doesn't seem completely at ease discussing his past with Swift. John Mayer, the singer known for "Gravity," was briefly connected to Taylor Swift from 2009 to 2010. Fans believe that Swift's song "Dear John" is about him. While he has both praised and criticized Swift's songwriting, his interactions with her fans show that he has mixed feelings about being a topic of discussion. When a fan messaged him with negative comments, Mayer responded with curiosity, asking if they truly wished harm upon him.

When the user mentioned that she was dared to message him following the release of Red (Taylor's Version), Mayer responded with, "So it's a playful trend people are participating in without considering how it might affect me? That's completely fine. Carry on and live happily and healthily!"

According to a source speaking to Us after the Red rerelease in November 2021, John is making an effort to avoid the attention he's been receiving from Taylor's new album. The source added that the guitarist felt like his past was resurfacing to trouble him.

Jake Gyllenhaal, known for his role in Nightcrawler, was in a relationship with Taylor Swift in the fall of 2010. However, they broke up just before New Year's Eve. Fans have speculated that some of Swift's songs, like those on her album Red, are about their relationship. Despite this, Gyllenhaal has never openly talked about his relationship with Swift. In a 2015 interview with Howard Stern, he joked about not knowing if there was a song about him.

The actor's sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal, has commented on the line, "I left my scarf there at your sister's house," which fans thought was about her. During a September 2017 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, the Secretary star expressed confusion about the reference to the scarf.
