Whether you love it or hate it, awards season is currently underway, and Taylor Swift's icy glare at the Golden Globes has already become a trending topic. Fans of film and TV often have differing opinions on the enjoyment of awards season, with the Golden Globes being regularly ranked low in terms of importance.
It's always gratifying when a beloved celebrity wins, but even more so when mishaps lead to viral memes. This time, Taylor Swift endured a tasteless joke from a host, resulting in her infamous "death glare" going viral.
Taylor Swift’s “death glare” at Golden Globes joke goes viral
Taylor Swift’s “death glare” following a joke at the 2024 Golden Globes has gone viral – and fans are fully in Swift’s corner.
At the #GoldenGlobes, Taylor Swift takes a sip of her drink in response to Jo Koy's joke about her. "The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift," he remarks.
During the ceremony, host Jo Koy made a joke about the Golden Globes having fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift compared to the NFL. A clip of Swift responding to the joke was posted online by Variety.
The camera then focused on Swift, who maintained a stony expression while sipping on her drink. This isn't the first time hosts of the Golden Globes or other awards ceremonies have faced criticism for their jokes, with Ricky Gervais being well-known for offending attendees.
It's no surprise that Taylor Swift's fans had a lot to say about it. "Taylor Swift wasn't amused. The best jokes are the ones the subject can laugh at. This one missed the mark tbh," posted one fan on X/Twitter. Another fan added, "They say looks can kill and she might try..."

"Oops, looks like we made a mistake," remarked a third user, to which a fourth replied, "That comment definitely did not go over well with Swift. Not Jo Koy's shining moment."
"Well, that didn't take long - adding this to the X gif collection. I personally thought Koy's joke was harmless, but this new GIF will certainly be a gem. It might even rival the iconic Denzel GIF. She's just so compelling," summarized another fan.
Swift came away from the Golden Globes empty-handed, despite her astronomical box office success with her Eras Tour concert movie.

Editor's P/S
As a devoted Taylor Swift fan, I am thrilled that her iconic death stare at the Golden Globes has become a viral sensation. It's a testament to her unwavering confidence and ability to command attention, even in the face of tasteless jokes. Taylor's reaction perfectly encapsulates the frustration and annoyance we all feel when someone makes an inappropriate remark. Her unwavering composure and refusal to let the joke get to her demonstrate her strength and resilience.
It's disheartening to see hosts like Jo Koy resorting to cheap humor at the expense of celebrities. Awards ceremonies should be a platform to celebrate achievements and foster positivity, not a stage for disrespectful comments. Taylor's reaction serves as a reminder that celebrities are people too, and they deserve to be treated with respect. I stand with Taylor and applaud her for not letting this incident overshadow her well-deserved success.
