Taylor Swift's Commentary on Kim Kardashian in 'The Poet's Reflection' Track

Delve into Taylor Swift's subtle reference to Kim Kardashian in the song 'Thank You Aimee' from her latest album 'The Poet's Reflection'.

Taylor Swift's 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, was highly anticipated for potentially calling out her exes. However, it was Kim Kardashian who ended up receiving the strongest criticism.

In the second set of songs released on Friday, April 19, one track titled "thanK you aIMee" caught the attention of fans. At first glance, the random capitalization seemed odd. But upon closer examination, sharp-eyed fans noticed that the capitalized letters actually spelled out the name "Kim."

Swifties are familiar with Taylor Swift, who is 34 years old, and has a history of including hidden messages in her lyrics through capitalization. This was a tradition she followed for all her albums until the release of Reputation. However, she brought back this game by dropping clues about TTPD before the record came out.

The song "thanK you aIMee" doesn't beat around the bush. Swift starts off by mentioning a bronze spray-tanned statue of someone named "Aimee" in her hometown, likely Los Angeles. She describes a plaque under the statue threatening to push her down the stairs at their school.

The track portrays high school themes, with "Aimee" symbolizing Swift's former teenage bully whom she had always hoped to overcome.

In the song, Swift expresses her emotions, saying, "While you were being aggressive, I was busy creating something / I can't forget how you hurt me / I shouted 'F—k you, Aimee' into the night, blood flowing," showing her anger. However, she also acknowledges, "But I can't ignore how you helped me heal."

In the song, Swift mentions that the conflict between her and Kardashian was never a fair or clean fight. She refers to Kardashian as "Aimee" and describes her as mocking her progress.

The feud between Swift and Kardashian dates back to 2009 when Kanye West interrupted Swift's award acceptance at the MTV VMAs. In 2016, Swift criticized West for a disrespectful lyric in his song, leading Kardashian to defend him by releasing a phone conversation between the two artists.

Kardashian retaliated against Swift by posting multiple snake emojis on "National Snake Day." In response, Swift released her album Reputation in 2017, where she addressed the feud. Two years later, she wrote an essay for Elle, discussing the challenges she faced.

In the essay, Swift expressed the desire for an apology from those who have bullied her. However, she acknowledged that the satisfaction of overcoming adversity and thriving despite it may be all she ever receives. She penned these words before reaching the age of 30 in 2019.

Swift reignited the beef in 2020 when the full version of her leaked phone conversation with Kardashian surfaced online. She took to her Instagram Stories to express that the new footage proved she “was telling the truth the whole time.” Swift called out Kardashian for leaking the video on Snapchat in the first place.

In response, Swift wrote, “You know, the one that was illegally recorded, that somebody edited and manipulated in order to frame me and put me, my family, and fans through hell for 4 years…” On the other hand, Kardashian claimed that Swift was “lying” about what went down.

In 2021, Kardashian surprised fans by praising Swift and her music during an episode of the “Honestly With Bari Weis” podcast. She mentioned that she really likes a lot of Swift's songs, finding them cute and catchy. Kardashian even admitted that she would need to check her phone to remember a specific song name.

If “thanK you aIMee” is any indication, Swift has not moved on in the same way. The song suggests that Kardashian's words are still lingering in her mind. Swift also references her mother, Andrea, implying that even though her mother is seen as a saintly woman, she once wished that Kardashian was no longer around.

Swift suggests that Kardashian may have redefined the feud in a way that helped her move on without damaging Swift's spirit.

She also mentions that she has concealed Kardashian's identity in the song by changing her name and avoiding obvious references. However, the song still clearly points to Kardashian, even in the title.

The final part of the track playfully teases Kardashian for enjoying Swift's music. Swift, a Grammy winner, jokingly imagines that Kardashian's children - North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm - whom she shares with West, might also end up liking her songs.

Swift humorously remarks, "And one day, your kid comes home singing a song that only us two know is about you."

Kardashian is given one final heartfelt thank you by the woman as she expresses her gratitude. "Our town seems so tiny from up here," she remarks. "Thank you, Aimee."

The Tortured Poets Department is available for purchase now.
