Taylor Swift has hinted at a new Easter egg for her fans, this time possibly revealing the inspiration behind her song "Sweet Nothing."

Sharp-eyed social media users observed on Thursday, November 30, that Swift, 33, had "liked" a post from an October 2022 Paul McCartney fan account. The post featured a photo of the Beatles icon, 81, and his former wife Linda McCartney.

After returning from a run with a poem to share, Linda would often tell me, "What a mind," Paul revealed. "Even though the lines may not have been exceptional, she wasn't just being polite. She truly meant what she said. It's the kind of thing that can make a person feel truly good."

Some fans interpreted Swift's recent social media posts as a sign that she wrote "Sweet Nothing" as a tribute to the McCartneys, who were married from 1969 to 1998. The ballad "Sweet Nothing," released in October 2022, contains lyrics that echo Paul's sentiments.

In the second verse, Swift sings, "I wrote a poem on my way home / You say, 'What a mind' / This happens all the time."

When the album was released, many fans speculated that Swift wrote "Sweet Nothing" about her boyfriend at the time, Joe Alwyn. In the chorus, she sings, "They said the end is coming / Everyone’s up to something / I find myself running home to your sweet nothings / Outside, they’re push and shoving / You’re in the kitchen humming / All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing."

Swift and Alwyn, 32, ended their six-year relationship in April. According to an insider, Alwyn's discomfort with Swift's stardom played a role in the breakup. The source explained that Joe, who is very shy, felt overwhelmed by the attention that came with dating such a popular singer. Alwyn never blamed Swift for her fame, but he struggled with the constant spotlight that came with their relationship.

The couple kept their relationship very private, so when they broke up, it took Swift's fans by surprise. Since April, some dedicated fans have been trying to figure out when exactly Swift and Alwyn split up by looking for clues in her Eras Tour performances, unreleased songs, and other sources.

In May, Swift released a special edition of Midnights for fans at her Eras Tour at MetLife Stadium. The extended version of the album included "You’re Losing Me (From the Vault)," a strong breakup song that many fans thought was about the end of Swift and Alwyn's relationship.

"Say something, babe, do something (say something) / Risk something, babe, lose something (you’re losin’ me),” she sings in the outro. “I got nothing, babe, choose something (got nothing) / To believe / Unless you’re choosin’ me.”

Swift dropped the song on streaming platforms on Wednesday, November 29, in celebration of being named Spotify’s Top Global Artist of 2023. Jack Antonoff, her longtime collaborator, caused a stir by disclosing the specific time and place "You’re Losing Me” was written - a year prior to Swift and Alwyn's breakup.

"Today marks the release of 'You're Losing Me,' a unique track from the Midnights sessions that is now available for streaming!" he announced on his Instagram Story, along with a photo of Swift in a kitchen. "This was written and recorded at home on 12/5/21 after Taylor snacked on these raisins."
