Taylor Swift's latest accomplishment feels surreal. Her song "Cruel Summer," featured on her 2019 album "Lover," has reached the top spot on Billboards Hot 100 chart. The news was announced on Monday by the music charting site, revealing that the song had previously reached a peak position of No. 3.
Swift expressed her excitement over the success of her self-proclaimed "favorite" song, which was released over four years ago but just recently became an official single in June. In a video shared on her Instagram on Monday, she thanked her fans for making "Cruel Summer" reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart. Despite the season being autumn and her attire being a sweater, Swift conveyed her love and appreciation for her supporters.
Jack Antonoff, who frequently collaborates and co-writes with Swift, joined her in the video and expressed his belief that "Cruel Summer" is the standout track on the album. He described it as their hidden gem, stating, "It truly holds significant importance to us."
Swift kicks off her 44-song "Eras Tour" setlist with "Cruel Summer," a pop anthem that has seen a surge in popularity since the beginning of the tour in March.
Expressing her deep attachment to the song, she shared with her Pittsburgh audience in June that it was her pride and joy. She also revealed that her label had chosen it as her next single due to its high streaming numbers.
In another not-so-cruel milestone, Billboard also reported on Monday that Swift is now ranked tenth on an "elite" list of artists with ten or more No. 1 songs on the Hot 100 chart.
