Taylor Swift's latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, is receiving positive feedback from both critics and fans.
At 34 years old, Swift and her best friend Abigail Anderson both showed their support for the new record by "liking" a TikTok video from a fan.
Alli Bellairs expressed her enthusiasm for Taylor Swift's music in a video posted on Saturday, April 20. She shared, "I’ve been jamming Taylor Swift into any hole that I have that will listen, and I just want to say I like it." Bellairs likened Swift's music to a freeing experience, stating, "It’s like she said, ‘Let’s take off the parental controls, taking off the training wheels. You want to go for a ride? Give me a pen and let’s get out of here.'"
In the video, Bellairs also commented on Swift's evolution as an artist, noting, "She went from Speak Now to ‘sit the f—k down and you speak when you’re spoken to.’ Get them, Taylor." Bellairs praised Swift's growth and assertiveness in her music.
Swift dropped her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, on Friday, April 19. Just two hours later, she delighted fans with The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, featuring an additional 15 songs.
Announcing the surprise on social media, Swift revealed, "It’s a 2 am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore … it’s all yours."
Fans have been analyzing the lyrics of Swift's new songs to uncover the inspiration behind them. Many believe that the surprising split from Joe Alwyn and her rumored relationship with Matty Healy have influenced the music. (There are also subtle mentions of Swift's current boyfriend, Travis Kelce, in some tracks.)

Swift has shared additional details about several songs, such as "Fortnight" featuring Post Malone, "Clara Bow," "Florida!!!" with Florence + the Machine, "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" and "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys."
"‘Fortnight’ is a song that showcases many common themes found throughout this album. One of these themes is fatalism - feelings of longing, yearning, and shattered dreams," explained Swift in an interview with Amazon Music. She described the album as being very fatalistic, with dramatic lines about life and death such as 'I love you, it's ruining my life.' The album is filled with exaggerated and intense emotions.
Swift also mentioned that the song "Clara Bow" was inspired by her own experiences in the music industry.
As a child, I used to sit in record labels hoping to secure a record deal. I remember the executives would compare me to other artists and make negative remarks about them. They would say things like, "You remind us of so-and-so, but you're better in this or that way." This kind of comparison teaches women to see themselves as potential replacements for successful women who came before them.
I have always admired women who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry. Clara Bow, known as the first It Girl, and Stevie Nicks, an iconic figure in music, have inspired me. They have set a high standard of greatness for anyone pursuing a career in writing songs and creating music.
