El Moussa was diagnosed with stage II thyroid cancer in early 2013, followed by the discovery of testicular cancer. Despite facing both illnesses, he successfully overcame them. However, these health challenges led to turmoil in his personal life.

The most difficult struggle for El Moussa was his divorce, which he described as more challenging than any other issue he had ever faced. Despite the hardships, he managed to persevere and move forward.

El Moussa and Hall, who are both 40 years old, announced their separation in 2016 after being married for seven years. They shared in a joint statement that their relationship had faced some challenges.

In their statement, the former couple mentioned that they have decided to separate for the time being to reassess the future of their marriage. They have a daughter named Taylor, who is 13, and a son named Brayden, who is 8. Despite their separation, they are dedicated to being the best parents they can be for their children. They also expressed their commitment to handling the separation process amicably and cooperatively, while still working together professionally.

The duo's divorce was official in 2018. El Moussa shared in his new book, Flip Your Life: How to Find Opportunity in Distress — in Real Estate, Business and Life, about the moment that led to his split from Hall. After a disagreement with his ex, El Moussa took a walk with his gun for safety since mountain lions and bobcats were seen in the area.

As he recounted the incident, Tarek described a police officer in a helicopter pointing a rifle at him. The dust swirled around him as the blades spun, and a loudspeaker crackled, instructing him to raise his hands.

Amidst the chaos, Tarek heard an officer call out his name. In response, he identified himself as the TV personality and questioned the officers about their actions.

He went on to say that he spent several hours sitting on a cooler on his driveway, handcuffed. It was the final moment they were all together as a family: Christina walking away crying, while he sat there in handcuffs, wondering what was happening.

Both El Moussa and Hall have since moved on and found happiness after their difficult breakup.

Tarek got married to Heather Rae El Moussa (formerly Young), a star from Selling Sunset, in 2019. Their son, Tristan Jay, was born in February 2023. According to an insider, Tarek was drawn to Heather's positive energy and appreciated that she shared his profession as a realtor and understood his life as a reality star.

On the other hand, Christina found love with realtor Joshua Hall and they got married in 2022. Celebrating her husband's birthday on social media, the HGTV star posted a sweet message calling Joshua "gorgeous" one year after their wedding.
