Suzanne Somers’ Son's Heartwarming Tribute to Late Actress: A Touching Tribute to an Iconic Legend

Bruce Somers Jr., the son of Suzanne Somers, is honoring his mother's memory. In a heartfelt Instagram post on October 16th, the 57-year-old wrote, "She exceeded expectations, advocating for those who couldn't. She posed the inquiries others didn't think to ask. She bravely shared her obstacles and shed light on solutions." Bruce continued, "To many, she was a courageous warrior who voiced their fears. She wasn't without fear, but she confronted it so that we could learn. She was a friend, a spouse, a sibling, a child, a performer, an icon, and a legend. However, to me, she was simply Mom. I had the privilege of being the only one who could address her as such."

Bruce, whom Somers shared with her first husband, Bruce Somers Sr., said that he and his mother were a united force before she became a highly acclaimed actress with her notable roles in shows like Three’s Company and Step by Step.

He expressed that no matter how ready they might have been, it always feels like the loss is too soon. However, he emphasized that his mother's teachings will continue to live on within him. She taught him the importance of kindness, being present, love and being loved, caring for others, expressing oneself, and always speaking with sincerity because that is akin to the voice of God.

Despite Suzanne equipping him with all the necessary tools for life, Bruce Jr. expressed his need for her guiding spirit. He acknowledged feeling her presence and recognized her absence in tangible ways, missing her gentle touch and caring gaze that provided reassurance. He gratefully acknowledged her as the best mother any son could dream of and expressed his longing for more time together. Despite the love he received surpassing his expectations, he still yearned for more than the 57 years they had. He concluded his message by acknowledging that Suzanne had passed away one day before her 77th birthday and wished for her to enjoy unlimited birthday cake in heaven while spreading joy and emotions among the angels. On Sunday, October 15, it was confirmed that Somers passed away after a twenty-year fight against breast cancer. Suzanne's longtime publicist, R. Couri Hay, stated that she was surrounded by her loving husband, Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family.

In addition to her husband, Alan Hamel, Suzanne is survived by her three stepchildren, who Hamel, 87, shares with his ex-wife, Marilyn Shapiro.

Alan, on the eve of his spouse's passing, wrote a heartfelt letter expressing his deep emotions. In the letter, shared with us by Hay, he revealed his frequent use of the word "love" in various contexts. From signing off emails to his beloved family and close friends, to bidding farewell before leaving the house, Alan acknowledged the different ways in which we express love. Despite feeling obligated to respond with love when uncomfortable, he continued to use it.

Furthermore, Alan delved into the diverse meanings of love, concluding his letter by admitting the impossibility of finding a single word to capture his love for Suzanne. Even the esteemed scholars at Oxford University Press, after 50 years of deliberation, have been unable to find that elusive term. Instead, Alan chose to refer to their love as the incomparable and incomprehensibly wonderful "us."
