Suzanne Somers is now placing a lower emphasis on her career after her recent fight against cancer, signaling a change in her priorities.

According to Suzanne's husband, Alan Hamel, who spoke to Page Six on Monday, July 31, Suzanne has been living with cancer throughout her life. He also mentioned that in her 20s, she had to deal with two instances of hyperplasia, which is considered a precursor to cancer.

Hamel, who is 87 years old, revealed that his wife, Somers, who is 76, received a positive diagnosis on June 6 after undergoing treatment for cancer once again. He emphasized that cancer can be unpredictable, and therefore, they will be closely monitoring her condition going forward.

While Somers is experiencing improvements in her health, Hamel mentioned that she will be taking a hiatus from her Hollywood career. "For now, we have decided to prioritize her well-being and prioritize her health over work," he added.

According to Hamel, Somers' doctors informed her family that without leading a chemical-free, organic lifestyle aided by bioidentical hormones, the actress would not be alive. In her 30s, Somers initially fought against skin cancer and was subsequently diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000. Instead of undergoing chemotherapy, she opted for a lumpectomy and radiation to treat the illness.

"I have established a new level of healthcare," she shared with We in October 2018 when reflecting on her health journey. "I avoided chemical toxins and instead made a shift in my diet, consuming only real and organic food – if it can be harvested, plucked, milked, or hunted."

Furthermore, Somers added, "I incorporate organic buttercream, sour cream, and cream cheese into my meals, ensuring they are hormone-free. I prioritize eight hours of quality sleep every night and completely avoid pharmaceutical medications."

The former Step by Step star further described her lifestyle as “optimal,” telling Us at the time that she didn’t “worry about cancer” and a possible return.

Somers experienced two other health scares prior to her second battle with cancer. In January 2020, she endured a hip fracture, and later in the year, she had a devastating fall.

In October 2020, Somers shared that she had undergone neck surgery following a fall down her stairs. Humorously stating that even tequila didn't alleviate the intense pain, she revealed that scans showed two misplaced vertebrae causing nerve pressure and severe discomfort. Sommers reassured her followers that the surgery successfully resolved the problem and she was now recovering and feeling significantly improved.

Hamel stated that his wife continued to experience side effects from her fall in 2020. He added that she had suffered a neck fracture in the accident and developed hydrocephalus due to the concussion, which affected her balance and ability to walk.
