Suits producer Gene Klein discusses the potential revival of the show following its successful resurgence on Netflix. Despite ending its nine-year run on USA Network several years ago, the legal drama has found a new lease on life on the streaming platform. Since its arrival on Netflix, Suits has amassed a staggering total of 3.1 billion minutes watched (including Peacock's numbers), setting a record on the Nielsen streaming chart for an acquired title.
Given the show's renewed popularity, non-writing producer Klein recently spoke to TV Line about the series' success and the possibility of a revival. Although Suits concluded with its ninth season, he acknowledges that he anticipates a future attempt to bring back New York's finest closers. See his full statement below:
I mentioned to Aaron that in this age of reboots and reunions, I am anticipating a call but as of now, no serious conversations have taken place. Nowadays, it wouldn't be surprising if someone reached out to you. However, I have not been informed of any plans so far.
Yeah, as you may recall, it was quite a complex process to keep everyone involved and ensure the actors signed their deals until the end of the show. It would be challenging to orchestrate a reunion, but I would be thrilled if it actually happened. When you work on a show for such a long time, the cast becomes like a close-knit family. Recently, many of us gathered for a Suits-themed event at Fox, where writers from different seasons had the opportunity to meet each other. Some actors also attended the event.
What A Potential Suits Revival May Look Like
Suits went through multiple cast reshuffles before it ended. The original cast members, including Gina Torres' Jessica Pearson, left the series. Jessica left in season 6 to relocate to Chicago. After that, Mike and Rachel had to be written out due to Meghan Markle's wedding to Prince Harry. In the end, even Harvey and Donna left the New York firm to join Mike and Rachel in Seattle, leaving Louis in charge.
If a Suits revival happens, it could explore some unresolved storylines. The show could check in on how Louis is managing the original New York firm and whether he has succeeded despite his emotional volatility. Additionally, it would be interesting to know how Jessica is faring in Chicago after her spin-off, Pearson, was canceled after one season. Lastly, many fans would be eager to see how Harvey, Mike, Donna, and Rachel are adapting to their new career paths in Seattle.
Fans should not hold onto hope for a Suits revival in the near future. It was already challenging to retain the original actors until the series concluded, and it is expected to be even more difficult now considering everyone's schedules. Despite unresolved storylines, Suits provided a satisfying finale. Unless the entire original cast reunites for the proposed revival, it may be best to avoid it.
