The Marvel fanbase is advocating for an unexpected choice to take over Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. Majors first appeared as one of Kang's variants, He Who Remains, in Loki Season 1 and then as Kang himself in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Majors recently appeared as another Kang variant, Victor Timely, in Loki Season 2. He was also set to reprise the Kang role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and its sequel, Secret Wars.
However, everything changed when Majors was convicted of assault on December 18. Marvel Studios quickly terminated their contract with the actor, sparking speculation about who will take over the role.
Marvel fans have unexpected choice for Jonathan Majors’ replacement
One name among the many being discussed has captured attention: Terrence Howard. Some Marvel fans have suggested that Howard, who portrayed James "Rhodey" Rhodes in Iron Man before being replaced by Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2, should make a comeback to the MCU as the new Kang.
Let's consider recasting Jonathan Majors as Kang in the MCU. Terrence Howard would be the obvious choice.
"Alright, listen up," typed a user named X. "There's a clear and perfect choice to have Terrence Howard take on the role of Kang in the MCU.... Terrence Howard himself." Another user chimed in, "Marvel needs to consider replacing Jonathan Majors with Terrence Howard." And a third user declared, "They should definitely cast Terrence Howard as Kang."
Some fans took Howard's potential casting more seriously than others. A post labeled the idea of Howard stepping into Majors' Marvel role as "absolutely hilarious." Another comment poked fun at Howard's history in the MCU, specifically how Don Cheadle replaced him.
“Marvel should hire Terrence Howard to replace Majors. And by Terrence Howard, I really mean Don Cheadle,” its author quipped.
Is Marvel Studios dropping Kang as the MCU’s big bad?
There is no evidence that Howard is being considered for the Kang role. It is unclear if Marvel Studios will stick to their original plans for Kang as the main antagonist in Phases Five and Six of the MCU. Sources claim that Kevin Feige and his team have changed the title from Kang Dynasty to Avengers 5. This aligns with previous reports that the fifth and sixth Avengers movies will undergo title changes and may introduce a new villain, Doctor Doom, who is the nemesis of the Fantastic Four.

As a passionate Marvel fan, I am intrigued by the recent developments surrounding the potential replacement for Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. The suggestion of Terrence Howard taking on the role has sparked mixed reactions within the fandom. While some fans wholeheartedly support the idea, others view it as a humorous and unlikely scenario.
Personally, I believe that recasting Kang with Terrence Howard could bring a unique perspective to the character. Howard's previous portrayal of James "Rhodey" Rhodes in the Iron Man franchise demonstrated his acting prowess and charisma. If given the opportunity to embody Kang, he could bring a fresh interpretation to the complex and formidable villain. However, it is crucial for Marvel Studios to carefully consider all aspects of this decision, ensuring that the narrative and character development remain consistent with the overall MCU storyline.
