It's no secret that the Pokemon franchise has a plethora of beloved creatures and iconic characters such as Brock and Misty, but it's the many landmarks within the franchise that have truly captured fans' imaginations over the years.
One such landmark is Mount Coronet, a legendary place in the Sinnoh region that is said to be the birthplace of the entire area. Arceus, the highest mountain in Sinnoh, created Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina at the Spear Pillar, which stands atop the peak of Mount Coronet. In addition to Mount Coronet, Gen 3 also boasts unique locations like Sootopolis - a city built inside the crater of an underwater volcano that erupted and rose out of the sea, ultimately filling with rainwater. And of course, there's Lavender Town - a spooky destination that is forever etched in the memories of Pokemon fans as the site of one of the franchise's most heart-wrenching moments.
In a stunning display of fan art, Reddit user jamiedrummond has given the Slowpoke Well from Pokemon Gold and Silver a pixel art makeover. The well, located in Azalea Town, is home to a variety of wild Pokemon, most notably the town's Slowpoke. The artwork depicts Slowpoke and Slowbro enjoying a soak in the cave's waters, while Slowking perches atop a nearby rock. Interestingly, it is said that a Slowpoke from the well ended a drought that devastated the town 400 years prior to the events of the game with just a yawn, adding to the lore of this unique location. The Slowpoke Well is just one of the many Gen 2 locations based on real places, and is featured as part of the Johto Redrawn project. This project brings together artists to redraw the region and create an interactive map that includes all the locations from the Gen 2 games, such as the Lake of Rage where players can discover wild Pokemon like Hoothoot and the rare red Gyarados. Johto Redrawn is part of a larger project called Retro Redrawn, which also features a reimagined map from The Legend of Zelda, and is currently working on reimagining the entire Kanto region.
