Stranger Things Season 5 Sparks Controversy as Key Character Departs

Stranger Things fans are left in a state of uncertainty as a significant character departs from Season 5, triggering a divisive response among loyal Netflix viewers

Opinions are split among Netflix fans over the news that a key Stranger Things character will not be back for Season 5. Even during the height of the Hollywood strikes, speculation about de-aging the main cast persisted, keeping the Stranger Things chat alive.

Will Byers star Noah Schnapp recently found himself embroiled in controversy, which continues to be a hot topic as Netflix announced the start of filming for Season 5. While some fans are advocating for Schnapp to be eliminated from the final chapter, there is another character who will not be returning, and this decision is causing division among fans.

Stranger Things fans divided after major character drops out of Season 5

Eduardo Franco, known for his role as the laid-back Argyle in Stranger Things, recently shared that he has not been contacted about returning for Season 5. This news has sparked mixed reactions among fans.

This week, Netflix released the first cast photo for the fifth and final season, confirming that filming had started - but Franco was noticeably absent. When asked about it on the Steve Varley Show, the Argyle star responded, "It’s nice to hear that there’s some sort of concern or something, you know what I mean? But I never got a phone call, so I think that’s it."

The news has caused outrage among some fans, with one person writing, "Stranger Things better call him. He's such a lovable character." Another commented, "Wow, it's truly shocking if he's not in the final season of Stranger Things."

A third fan added, "I'm really upset. What are the Duffers going to do? Just make Argyle disappear? They send him back to California but he knows everything that's going on? Give him a proper ending, Argyle deserves that."

Some Reddit fans expressed a more diplomatic view, with one saying, "It's unfortunate for the actor, but it's logical since Argyle resides in California and the last season will likely be exclusively set in Hawkins." Another fan commented, "He was fine, but he's not even from Hawkins, and the show already has too many side characters." A third fan added, "Honestly, I'm okay with that. He had more screen time than necessary."

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan of Stranger Things, I am disappointed to hear that Eduardo Franco, who plays Argyle, will not be returning for Season 5. Argyle brought a unique and comedic element to the show, and his chemistry with the other characters was undeniable. While I understand that the final season will likely focus on the main characters and the events in Hawkins, it feels like a missed opportunity to not include Argyle in some way. I hope the Duffer Brothers find a way to give Argyle a proper send-off and acknowledge his contributions to the show.

On the other hand, I am excited to see how the writers will wrap up the storylines and character arcs in the final season. Stranger Things has been a cultural phenomenon, and I am eager to see how it concludes. I trust the Duffer Brothers to deliver a satisfying and memorable ending that will leave a lasting impact on fans.
