The new Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel is currently being filmed under the working title Firehouse, and a recently released set video teases fans with glimpses of a revamped firehouse and a shiny Ecto-1. The sequel continues the story of the new generation of ghostbusters introduced in Jason Reitman’s 2021 film, where the torch was passed from the original cast. The new gang is seen setting up shop in the iconic Ghostbusters firehouse headquarters, as teased by star McKenna Grace on TikTok.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 Is (Mostly) Bringing Everyone Back
As part of Ghostbusters Day, a lively video of Grace doing a dynamic dance within the firehouse interior and out into the fake street was shared. This video has sparked speculation about the setting of Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, as a new logo was also revealed on the same day, hinting at a possible wintry backdrop.
In Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2, fans can expect to see both new and familiar faces. The cast includes TikTok star Grace as Phoebe Spengler, as well as Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, Carrie Coon, and Paul Rudd. Returning from the original Ghostbusters films are Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, while William Atherton reprises his role as the EPA official Walter Peck. However, Sigourney Weaver and Bill Murray are notably absent from the cast, indicating that they may be done with the franchise after their humorous mid-credits scene in Afterlife.
The upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel features returning cast members and familiar settings, as well as beloved gadgets from the franchise. However, with a new director at the helm, it is yet to be seen if the film will introduce any refreshing changes to the well-established formula. It is possible that the movie will rely on the strong Ghostbusters legacy and fan nostalgia. Gil Kenan will take over as director for the sequel, replacing Reitman.
