Snoop Dogg, 51, took a firm stance in support of the striking writers and actors in Hollywood by choosing to cancel some of his upcoming shows. In an Instagram post on Tuesday, July 25, he regretfully informed his fans that the Hollywood Bowl show[s] would be canceled due to the ongoing strike. Snoop Dogg expressed his solidarity with the WGA, SAG/AFTRA, and all his fellow industry professionals during this challenging period. He remained hopeful that the AMPTP would return to the negotiating table with a substantial proposal, allowing everyone to resume their work.
The artist, who had intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his Doggystyle album, initially announced in June that he would be rescheduling the two shows to October owing to the strikes. In May, Snoop Dogg expressed his support for the writers strike and also discussed its impact on the music industry.
"When I initially entered the industry, my album sales relied heavily on physical copies. If you sold one million copies at $9.99 each, that would be a total of nine million dollars. You would receive a certain percentage from that. However, when it comes to streaming, it's not being translated in the same way, and it's not beneficial for artists at the moment. This is a problem that needs to be addressed in the music industry. It's unfair, and we need to find a solution, just like how the writers are working on it. It's disheartening that some artists have millions and millions of streams, but they don't see those millions of dollars in their pockets."
Apart from Snoop Dogg, other musicians in Hollywood, such as rapper Flavor Flav, have expressed support for the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In May, Flavor Flav was seen on the picket lines alongside Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis.
"The individuals participating in the strike are individuals who genuinely care, Hollywood," stated Flavor Flav, 64, as he shared a photograph of himself and Sudeikis, 47, on Instagram. "Similar to the enthusiasm of people at a hip-hop concert who do not raise their hands in the air." In May, the band Imagine Dragons also expressed their support for the writers strike by performing on the picket lines.
"We simply seek equitable compensation for individuals who dedicate their time and possess remarkable talent, which undeniably contributes greatly to the entertainment industry," expressed lead singer Dan Reynolds during an interview with TMZ. "Writers are the ones responsible for bringing forth the enchantment and creativity that fuel much of the world. They are my greatest source of joy."
Likewise, Weezer, the band, showed solidarity with writers by performing a brief set for the protesters in May. Captioning an Instagram video of their performance, the band stated, "We stand alongside writers #WGAStrong."
