Taylor Swift wasted no time in jumping on board for one of Saturday Night Live's most unforgettable sketches of season 47.

During their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 6, SNL writers Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, known as the comedy group Please Don't Destroy, revealed how their collaboration with Swift, aged 33, came about.

Airing in a November 2021 episode of the NBC comedy series, their musical parody called "Three Sad Virgins" featured the Please Don't Destroy trio as themselves alongside SNL alum Pete Davidson. In the sketch, Davidson, aged 29, asks the three comedians if they are interested in filming a music video with him. They eagerly accept, only to realize that the lyrics of the song mockingly refer to them as "three sad virgins."

Fans were thrilled by Swift's unexpected appearance in the video, during which she flawlessly showcases the bridge.

"We honestly never anticipated her participation," shared Higgins, 27, during his interview with Jimmy Fallon on Monday. "When we proposed the idea to her, we explained it as 'Three Sad Virgins,' with you and Pete playfully mocking us. And she instantly agreed."

He added, “Now every time we’re on the street it’s like, ‘Hey, sad virgin!’”

It comes as no surprise that Swift supported the sketch idea, considering her extensive SNL history throughout the years. During a recent interview on Howard Stern's SiriusXM radio show, Seth Meyers, a late-night host and SNL alum, praised Swift's initial hosting debut in 2009. He described her original monologue song as a powerful testament to her immense talent and creative abilities.

Ben Marshall, Martin Herlihy, and John Higgins from the band "Please Don't Destroy" were featured on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" with host Jimmy Fallon. During the show, Seth Meyers, who was a former cast member and head writer on SNL, shared a story about Taylor Swift. Meyers explained that Swift had pitched her monologue for SNL to him and Lorne Michaels, the producer of the show. He described her performance as a beautiful song sung by a talented singer, and he believed it was a perfect monologue for SNL. Meyers expressed how amazed he was by Swift's ability to deliver a fully thought-out and precisely tailored gift to them.

Swift has made multiple appearances on SNL, both in sketches and as the musical guest. During the season 49 premiere, she and Travis Kelce surprised the audience with separate appearances. Swift introduced Ice Spice's musical performance and Kelce acted in a sketch inspired by his relationship with Swift. After the show, the couple were seen holding hands on a date night in New York City. According to a source, they have been together since September and are very happy.

“Travis is someone who is so different for [Taylor],” the insider added. “With him it’s easy. She doesn’t have to worry about anything.”
