Premiered in 2001, Smallville initially focused on Clark Kent's teenage years and his journey towards becoming Superman. However, as the series progressed, it introduced various famous DC heroes, including members of the Justice League. Founded by Superman, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Cyborg, and the Flash, the Smallville Justice League expanded to include additional members such as Black Canary, Supergirl, and Zatanna. Digital artist Buffy2Ville created the opening credits, which capture the essence of Smallville's early 2000s editing and music. Enjoy the video!
Will Any Of The Smallville Heroes Appear On-Screen Again?
The finale of Smallville gave a glimpse of Clark Kent as Superman, but left the rest to the viewers' imagination. Although Smallville season 11 was not shown on screen, the comic book series Smallville Season 11 continued Superman's adventures with other superheroes a few years later. In this limited comic book run, Superman joins forces with members of the Justice League and encounters new Smallville heroes such as Batman, Nightwing, Wonder Woman, and the Green Lantern John Stewart.
In 2019, Welling's Superman made a return in The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths. It was revealed that Clark Kent had retired from being Superman and chose to live a quiet life with Lois Lane. He gave up his superpowers and left behind his superhero responsibilities. Despite his Arrowverse counterpart and Lex Luthor trying to convince him otherwise, Tom Welling's Clark Kent refuses to give up his new life, even in the face of the multiversal collapse. This ending implies that Welling's Clark Kent will not be Superman again.
Smallville's other Justice League members are unlikely to make a comeback in any live-action show or movie. The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths was their best opportunity, but only Tom Welling's Clark Kent made an appearance in the Arrowverse. While a future multiversal event in the DCU is possible, it is more probable that Smallville's Justice League will return in an animated series. Tom Welling has hinted at a Smallville animated show, which would reunite most of the original cast. However, there have been limited updates on the series since Welling's comments in 2021.
