Bridgerton season 3's central romance will be just as enchanting and passionate, according to star Nicola Coughlan. The hit Netflix series, set in the Regency era and based on Julia Quinn's novel series, explores the love lives of different members of the Bridgerton family each season. This upcoming season will delve into the captivating love story between Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (played by Coughlan), who also happens to be his sister's closest friend and a secret gossip columnist.
During a recent interview with ET, Coughlan revealed that both she and Newton felt a bit nervous about filming their romantic scenes. This was because they had become friends during the first two seasons of filming, and now they had to portray intimate moments together. Despite the initial awkwardness, Coughlan assured fans that one particular kiss between their characters is quite passionate, even though it often led to laughter behind the scenes.
Luke and I found it amusing to read the books at the start of season 1, joking about the prospect of having to kiss and perform such scenes. However, when season 3 arrived, we were taken aback, realizing that we would have to kiss each other, considering we are close friends. It's not merely a pretend kiss, but a genuine one, adding a touch of intensity. Many elements from the books that fans anticipate have successfully made their way into the show.
Oh my goodness, on one occasion we were tasked with performing a profoundly romantic scene, filled with exquisitely crafted dialogue. However, we couldn't help but burst into fits of laughter, as we had to maintain intense eye contact and we couldn't help but think, "Oh my goodness."
Why Is Penelope and Colin's Romance Happening Now?
So far, the Bridgerton series has remained faithful to the original novels in terms of which couples are featured each season. However, Penelope and Colin's romance unfolds in book 4, Romancing Mister Bridgerton. As a result, the series will be bypassing An Offer from a Gentleman, which delves into the love story of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson).
Focusing on Penelope and Colin's story allows the show to further develop Benedict's character and prepare him for a more prominent role, as he has not yet been introduced to Miss Sophie Beckett, the love interest from book 3. It is uncertain if Miss Sophie will be introduced in season 3, but by giving attention to Penelope and Colin's romance, the show can continue their storyline while also building up Benedict's character.
