Prepare yourself to feel sadness for missed opportunities, fans of Full House: John Stamos contemplated dating Lori Loughlin before he met his ex-wife, Rebecca Romijn.
In his memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, which was released on Tuesday, October 24, Stamos, who is now 60, reminisced about the potential for a romantic connection between himself and Loughlin, who is now 59, during the mid-1990s when both of them were single at the same time.
Stamos described Loughlin as his own version of Sandra Dee from the movie Grease. He praised her kind heart and how she always manages to uplift his spirits whenever they spend time together. Despite spending countless days in each other's company, Stamos eagerly looks forward to their next meeting. Their deep understanding of one another and the strong bond they share epitomize the true essence of a solid, enduring friendship that forms the bedrock of a remarkable and enduring relationship.
John Stamos and Lori Loughlin developed a friendship while collaborating on the television series Full House, which aired from 1987 to 1995. Stamos portrayed the character Jesse Katsopolis, while Loughlin portrayed his romantic partner and eventual spouse, Rebecca Donaldson.
In 1994, Stamos encountered Romijn, who was 50 at the time, at a post-event celebration for a Victoria’s Secret fashion show where Romijn had participated as a model. Although Stamos attended the gathering with Loughlin, he managed to obtain Romijn’s contact information. Stamos referred to Romijn as the embodiment of Sandy in her black leather attire from the movie Grease.
Meanwhile, Loughlin noticed Stamos's unwavering attention toward Romijn and her fellow models. Stamos confessed, "Lori has known for a while that I am captivated by Romijn and the other stunning models. With every graceful strut down the runway, she shares a knowing glance with me and subtly smiles. She comprehends that I am not quite ready to settle down, and she plays along with me."
Stamos found himself in a dilemma, having to choose between the two women, while referring to Grease. "Should I stay sitting on a swing at the drive-in, feeling lonely and wearing a motorcycle jacket, singing like John Travolta for Sandra Dee? Or should I put on a letterman's sweater and venture into the carnival, searching for black patent leather stilettos with chills multiplying?" he wrote. "Let's just say Rebecca's initial call resembles a familiar line, 'Tell me about it, Stud,' and it's nothing short of electrifying."
Rebecca Romijn and John Stamos got married in September 1998 after getting engaged on Christmas Eve the previous year. However, they announced their separation in April 2004 after being married for five years. John Stamos later married Caitlin McHugh in February 2018, while Rebecca Romijn wed Jerry O’Connell in 2007. The couple of Stamos and McHugh have a son named Billy, who is 5 years old, while Romijn and O’Connell, who are both 49, are the parents of 13-year-old twins named Dolly and Charlie.
Loughlin, on her part, wedded Mossimo Giannulli in 1997. They have two daughters together, Isabella, 25, and Olivia Jade, 24.
Stamos has previously disclosed that he and Loughlin went on a date during their late teenage years. Their meeting was a result of their work on soap operas. "We went on a date to Disneyland before we both got married," he shared with HuffPost in 2013. "Although our timing wasn't right, and I mean no disrespect to her family and current husband, I would consider her as the one that got away."
