Angus Cloud's mother contacted 911 and stated a "possible overdose" before her son's official declaration of death on Monday, July 31. The Oakland Police Department promptly attended to Cloud's home at approximately 11:30 a.m. PT upon receiving his mother's distress call, during which she disclosed her son's absence of a pulse. Responders confirmed the actor's demise at the location. He was 25 years old.
Details of the heart-wrenching 911 call emerged shortly after reports surfaced on Monday that Cloud had tragically passed away just one week after laying his father to rest in Ireland. (Cloud’s father, Conor Hickey, had succumbed to a brief illness in May.)
"With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to an extraordinary individual today. Angus was cherished by all of us as an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son. He held a special place in our hearts in countless ways," Cloud's family shared with TMZ in a statement. "Having recently laid his father to rest, Angus grappled intensely with this devastating loss. The only solace we find is in knowing that he has been reunited with his beloved dad, who was his closest confidant and companion."
The family shared that Angus had been candid about his struggle with mental health prior to his passing. They expressed their desire for his passing to serve as a poignant reminder to others that they are not alone in their battles and should not endure them silently.
The statement concluded by expressing the desire for Cloud to be remembered for his humor, laughter, and love for everyone. The family also requested privacy as they continue to experience the impact of this tragic loss. The show's team also fondly remembered Cloud on Monday, particularly for his portrayal of Fezco on HBO's Euphoria from 2019 to 2022.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of Angus Cloud’s death. He possessed remarkable talent and was a cherished member of both the HBO and Euphoria community,” expressed the show’s social media platforms. “During this challenging period, our heartfelt sympathies go out to his loved ones and friends.”
Before his passing, Cloud openly discussed the challenges of portraying a drug dealer on television while also battling his own personal demons.
"Expressions of sympathy are necessary, as addiction is a grave matter that many medical professionals label as a disease. Despite its significance, it is often misunderstood. It may seem effortless to discuss and advise others to simply refuse drugs, but for individuals actively engaged in addiction, this is an incredibly difficult task. Many may sacrifice their entire lives and even succumb to this affliction, only for others to deny its classification as a disease, arguing that it is a matter of choice. However, no one willingly chooses to have cancer."
In a statement made to Complex in February 2022, he emphasized the challenges of addiction and the need for understanding. Just a month earlier, Cloud had expressed his desire to diversify his portfolio and engage in various projects as he continued his career in Hollywood.
"I aspire to continue creating remarkable projects and to remain an integral part of the art scene," Cloud expressed to GQ in January 2022. "Given my naturally quirky nature, I would find it enjoyable to explore the possibility of incorporating that whimsicality into my presence on camera."
He further emphasized, "Additionally, I have a strong desire to participate in a production akin to the [Fantastic Four] or delve into the enchanting realm of [Harry Potter] with some 'Wingardium Leviosa' magic. I am open and prepared for any opportunities, as there exists a multitude of infinite universes to explore and contribute to."
