Shannen Doherty's Emotional Decision Regarding 'Charmed' Finale After Being Fired

Shannen Doherty reflects on her emotional turmoil after being fired from 'Charmed,' leading to her decision not to return for the series finale in 2006.

Shannen Doherty does not regret the way Charmed ended. During a Q&A on her podcast "Let's Be Clear," the actress, known for playing Prue Halliwell for three seasons, was asked if she regrets not being in the show's final episode.

The answer is simply "No."

Doherty, 53, shared, "I feel sorry in a way - I feel sorry for the fans. But personally, I don't feel sorry because I was so devastated when I got fired. I believe that even if I had returned to the set years later, it would have brought back all those painful memories and crushed me once more."

Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano were the original Halliwell sisters on the TV show Charmed, which aired from 1998 to 2006. Doherty left the show after season 3, and a new sister, Paige (played by Rose McGowan), was introduced in season 4. Combs, Milano, and McGowan continued on until the final season.

During a December 2023 episode of Doherty's podcast, Combs, who is 50 years old, stated that Milano was responsible for Doherty being fired from the show.

Producer Jonathan Levin explained that they did not intend to let go of Shannen, but they felt forced into a difficult situation. It seemed like they had to choose between Shannen and Alyssa. Alyssa had reportedly given them an ultimatum, threatening to take legal action for creating a hostile work environment.

In response to the accusations, Alyssa Milano, aged 51, took to Instagram in February to strongly deny any wrongdoing. She stated that she did not have the authority to get anyone fired. Milano expressed her best wishes for Holly, Shannen, and Rose, hoping for peace and success in both their personal and professional lives. She emphasized that they all have their own battles to fight.

On Monday’s episode of “Let’s Be Clear,” Doherty also pondered what a Charmed revival featuring both Prue and Paige might look like.

"I would love for Prue and Paige to meet," she expressed. "I believe Prue would make a powerful Elder, able to be with her sisters, be present physically. I think she and Paige would connect instantly. I like to imagine that Prue has been watching over them all this time."
