Selena Gomez is (already) back on social media.
After announcing a break from Instagram, Gomez, 31, made a comeback to promote a cooking video with Gordon Ramsay. She captioned a photo of herself and Ramsay, 57, saying, "@gordongram stepped into my kitchen and showed me how to make an amazing Breakfast Burger." The video was uploaded on the chef’s YouTube channel on Wednesday, January 10.
Yesterday, Gomez revealed that she would be taking a break from social media following the Golden Globes controversy. "I'm prioritizing what's truly important," Gomez wrote in the caption of an Instagram video featuring her boyfriend, Benny Blanco. This is not the first time she has announced a social media hiatus - she previously took a break in October 2023 due to the overwhelming negativity in the world. She returned to Instagram less than two weeks later.

Gomez’s decision to take a break from the online world followed a controversial video showing her chatting with Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller at the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 7.
Social media users, now keen observers of lip-reading, initially speculated that Gomez was trying to take a picture with Timothée Chalamet at the event, only to be stopped by his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner. Rumors heightened when another angle of the video showed Teller apparently saying, "with Timothée."
Ultimately, Gomez clarified what was actually being said at the awards ceremony.
Gomez commented on an E! News Instagram post, expressing regret for sharing personal information about her friends. A source also clarified that there was no conflict between Gomez and Kylie Jenner or Timothée Chalamet at the Globes.
Gomez has had a complicated relationship with the Kardashian-Jenner family over the years. Her younger sister, Gracie, 10, is friends with Kim Kardashian’s eldest daughter, North, 10, but some fans believe there's tension between Gomez and Jenner due to the family's close ties to Hailey Bieber née Baldwin. In February 2023, Jenner denied any animosity between herself and Gomez after all three women shared videos of them discussing eyebrows.
“This is a stretch. no disrespect towards selena ever and i didn’t see her eyebrow post! U guys are making something out of nothing. this is ridiculous,” Jenner wrote on TikTok at the time. Gomez replied, “Agreed @kyliejenner it’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”

This isn't Gomez's first attempt to take a break from social media. In 2021, she disclosed that she had removed her apps from her phone years ago and had asked her assistant and friends to manage her social media accounts.
"I don't have it on my phone, so there's no temptation. I suddenly had to learn how to be with myself," she told Elle. "That was annoying, because in the past, I could spend hours looking at other people's lives. I would find myself scrolling through someone's feed for nearly two years, and then I'd realize, 'I don't even know this person!' Now I get information in a better way."
