Selena Gomez is clarifying the rumors of a feud with Dua Lipa, which arose after she unfollowed the singer on social media over the summer.
In an interview with Fast Company published on Tuesday, October 3, the 31-year-old Gomez addressed the speculation and stated, "It was unintentional! I was simply tidying up my Instagram when someone contacted me asking, 'What's going on between you and Dua?!'"
The outlet reported that Gomez made an effort to address the misunderstanding in June when she posted a photo on Instagram. In the photo, she can be seen wearing a dress from Lipa's La Vacanza collaboration and Gomez referred to it as "a little Versace/Dua moment" in the caption.
The two were previously seen together at the Variety's Hitmakers Brunch in December 2022. During interviews on the red carpet, both Gomez and Lipa expressed interest in collaborating with each other. Lipa enthusiastically stated, "I love Selena. Absolutely! If an opportunity arises, I would be on board." Gomez, in a separate conversation with the outlet, also voiced her enthusiasm, saying, "I would love that too! I think she was a breath of fresh air. I admire how she reintroduced dance in a positive way, and I think she's stunning."
Gomez is accustomed to dispelling rumors regarding her personal life, particularly concerning her friendships. This year, the star of Only Murders in the Building took the rare step of speaking out against the negativity aimed at Hailey Bieber (formerly known as Hailey Baldwin), the wife of her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
In March, Gomez took to her Instagram Story to share that Hailey Bieber had contacted her about receiving death threats and facing intense negativity. Gomez expressed her disapproval of such behavior, stating that she firmly believed in promoting kindness and urging for an end to the hate and bullying.
Reports of tension between them have been circulating for years. Gomez had an on and off relationship with Justin from 2010 to 2018. After their final split, Justin rekindled his romance with Hailey and they got married in September 2018.
