Scott Pilgrim Anime Creator Crafted Self-Contained Story in Preparation for Potential Season 2 Absence

The creator of the Scott Pilgrim anime ensured a self-contained story, eliminating the need for a Season 2 This complete tale on Netflix guarantees a satisfying experience for viewers

The creator of the Scott Pilgrim anime on Netflix confirmed that the production team ensured the season would have a satisfying conclusion on its own. It can be frustrating to invest in a new show only for it to be abruptly canceled with unresolved storylines.

Upon hearing that Netflix was going to reboot the Scott Pilgrim franchise into an anime, fans were concerned that the show would leave them hanging if cancelled. However, co-creator and co-showrunner Bryan Lee O’Malley assured audiences that the story was "self-contained" to avoid this issue.

Scott Pilgrim anime is a complete story without a Season 2

The anime, titled Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, acts as both a sequel and remake of the graphic novel, which was written by O’Malley and the 2010 cult-loved film.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, O'Malley and Grabinski discussed their approach to the new anime series and their mindset in creating Season 1 without the assumption of a follow-up season. O'Malley expressed their satisfaction with what they have accomplished, stating that they have utilized all of their creative ideas for the current season and that, while not ruling out the possibility entirely, a potential Season 2 would require extraordinary circumstances.

O’Malley further remarked, “There’s constant griping about shows being axed after just one season. That’s why we took precautions from the start and aimed to create a self-contained single season.”

Grabinski echoed his partner's feelings, stating, "We haven't started working on it. We don't have any official ideas. We put all our effort into this, and we believe it has a fantastic ending that we're proud of. I don't usually make plans."

"Maybe someday one of us will text the other with a truly great idea for a Season Two. But for now, all my focus and energy is on this project, and just getting it out there."

The anime followed the events of the film to a tee and the duo even managed to get the entirety of the original cast to come back and voice their characters.

As an enthusiastic fan of the Scott Pilgrim franchise, I was thrilled to hear that Netflix was rebooting the series into an anime. However, I was also concerned that the show would leave me hanging if it was canceled after just one season. Thankfully, co-creator and co-showrunner Bryan Lee O'Malley has assured audiences that the story is "self-contained" and will have a satisfying conclusion. This is a huge relief, as I can now relax and enjoy the show without worrying about being left with unresolved storylines.

I appreciate that O'Malley and Grabinski took the time to create a self-contained story for the anime. It shows that they are committed to giving fans a satisfying experience, even if the show is not renewed for a second season. I am also impressed by the fact that they were able to get the entirety of the original cast to come back and voice their characters. This is a testament to the enduring popularity of the franchise and the dedication of the cast and crew.
