Scheana Shay is still hoping for a chance to compete on Dancing With the Stars, but there is one dancer she hopes she won't be paired with. During an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Tuesday, April 9, Shay, 38, was questioned about Gleb Savchenko's remarks on her dancing skills, or lack thereof.
Shay thought it was rude and uncalled for when Savchenko passed judgment on her skills. But she shrugged it off, saying "It is what it is." She added, "It's okay, I wouldn't want him as my partner anyway."
Shay expressed her preference for DWTS pro Alan Bersten, while her husband, Brock Davies, questioned why Savchenko, 40, criticized Shay's dancing abilities. He pointed out that the show is meant for contestants without extensive dance backgrounds.
Davies, who is 32 years old, suggested that maybe Gleb could help her improve her dancing skills and become a better coach.
Savchenko himself acknowledged that he supported the decision to offer the job to Ariana Madix for season 32 instead of her fellow Vanderpump Rules costar. (Shay's initial reaction was a storyline in season 11 of Vanderpump Rules.)
"I'm happy that Scheana didn't join the show," Savchenko shared with the U.S. Sun on April 2. "I believe Ariana had a better chance."
Savchenko recalled his experience choreographing a dance for Scheana's wedding to Mike Shay in 2014, mentioning that it was a challenging task. "I remember it was tough. I'm not trying to criticize her. I think Scheana is fantastic. I genuinely admire her. She's a great person."
Savchenko also shared some advice for those interested in joining the show. He mentioned that anyone aspiring to be on Dancing With the Stars should start by taking dance classes. He emphasized that it's not just about celebrity status, such as Scheana or anyone else. Many people mistakenly believe that dance classes are just a casual hangout with a charming instructor with a Russian accent.
Shay, however, had a different version of events about her past dance with Savchenko.

"I filmed a scene for Vanderpump Rules where I danced for the first time in my life. I've never said I'm a dancer," she mentioned. "In the first partner dance, my partner was spinning me around. I saw the video recently and thought, 'Hey, I did pretty well!'"
The reality star faced criticism for getting emotional on season 11 of Vanderpump Rules when Madix, 38, was chosen for a DWTS slot over her after the Scandovoal incident.
“I started taking dance classes this year. I was getting ready just in case I got the opportunity. It was really tough to handle,” she shared with Lisa Vanderpump in a March episode. “I am genuinely happy for her. But it's okay for me to feel happy for her and disappointed for myself at the same time.”
Shay shared her feelings with Lala Kent, expressing how happy she was for her getting the opportunity to be on Dancing With the Stars. She reassured Lala that she would support her every Monday and genuinely felt happy for her success. Shay also acknowledged that Lala deserved all the good things happening to her and she was relieved that Lala did not go down a negative path. Despite being happy for Lala, Shay admitted that she was still hurting.
She then opened up about her own struggles, wondering why she never gets a moment to focus on herself. Shay revealed that she was dealing with the pain of losing a close friend and felt overwhelmed by the situation. She expressed her frustration about not being able to express her emotions because the attention was always on someone else, in this case, Ariana. Shay admitted that she was tired of feeling this way.
Madix was puzzled by Shay's reaction on screen.
She shared her perspective on WWHL, mentioning that she could relate to feeling happy for a friend's success while also wishing for the same opportunity for herself.
Madix questioned if one cast member's success on the show could potentially open doors for others in the group.
