A blood-soaked parody of Nicole Kidman's iconic viral AMC ad is featured in a new promotional video for the highly-anticipated Saw X. Serving as the tenth installment in the long-standing horror franchise Saw, this film follows in the footsteps of the 2004 original and its six direct sequels, as well as the legacy sequel Jigsaw and the soft reboot Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Set before the events of Saw III, Saw X delves into the story of Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) as he falls victim to a manipulative group of scammers who claim to hold a potential cure for his cancer. Lionsgate Movies, through their official YouTube account, recently released this thrilling video to generate excitement for its September 29 release. Don't miss out, watch it below:
Saw's Billy the Puppet Explained
In the video, Billy the Puppet replaces Nicole Kidman as he rides his tricycle to the Lionsgate offices for a screening of Saw X. The devilish twist gives a new spin to Kidman's iconic lines, such as "heartbreak feels good in a place like this" which is altered to "self-amputation feels good in a place like this."Despite never directly affecting the storyline, Billy the Puppet has emerged as the unofficial emblem of the Saw franchise. This tricycle-riding puppet, with its white face, red eyes, and red spirals on its cheeks, made its debut in the original Saw as an intermediary for Jigsaw. Through recorded messages, Billy delivered the killer’s communiqués to his victims, with this communication method being necessary to keep Jigsaw's true identity concealed until the climactic conclusion.
Billy the Puppet has remained a consistent presence in the Saw franchise, delivering messages throughout all the movies until Jigsaw in 2017. Although he did not appear officially in Spiral in 2021, a photograph of Billy did make an appearance. The Saw X trailer confirms that Billy will make a full return in the new movie, alongside Jigsaw.
This is largely because Saw X serves as a deliberate throwback to the early days of the franchise. Along with Billy and Jigsaw, Amanda Young, a longstanding character in Saw portrayed by Shawnee Smith, will also make a comeback. While the series acknowledges its contemporary references, as seen in the parody of Nicole Kidman's AMC ad, the prominent role of Billy demonstrates the filmmakers' intention to go back to their roots.
