Lifetime's debut of a Christmas movie with a sex scene has sparked widespread discussion, even becoming a subject of conversation on Saturday Night Live. During the Weekend Update sketch on December 2, Michael Che announced, "Next week, Lifetime will premiere their first Christmas movie with a steamy scene. The sex scene is set to solve the mystery of why Santa named one of his reindeer Vixen. It's a strange choice for a reindeer name, man."
Sarah Drew, writer and former Grey's Anatomy star, and lead actress Jana Kramer shared their thoughts on A Cowboy Christmas Romance being showcased on the show.
"SNL featured my latest movie," Kramer, 40, posted on her Instagram Story on Sunday, December 3, along with a snippet from the show.
On Sunday, Drew, age 43, shared on her Instagram Story regarding a joke made about her movie #acowboychristmasromance by @nbcsnl, wondering if this means she's finally made it. The official Lifetime Instagram account also posted a video of the skit with the caption, "Lifetime officially made the naughty list."

The movie "A Cowboy Christmas Romance" depicts the story of real estate agent Lexie (played by Kramer) who decides to go back to her hometown in Arizona to regain the land that belongs to rancher Coby Mason (portrayed by Adam Senn). As the two characters develop a deep connection, Lexie starts to reevaluate her own life choices and makes an effort to mend her relationships with her family members.
"This is the first Christmas movie from [Lifetime] with a sex scene," Kramer shared in a November episode of her “Whine Down” podcast. "When I read the script, I thought, ‘Well, this will be interesting.’ I mean, ‘How are we going to do this with the baby bump?’"
The One Tree Hill star, who recently had son Roman with fiancé Allan Russell, added: "Spoiler alert, we have a scene where he lays me down on some hay, and things progress from there. It's still a Lifetime movie, so it's suitable for families, but we definitely pushed the boundaries."
The day after filming, Kramer joked with her costar Senn about the scene and her pregnancy, saying "I was like, 'We made a baby!'" She also expressed her happiness that Lifetime didn't cut anything and left it all in the final product.
Drew, for her part, shared during the podcast episode her why she wanted to include the scene.

"The whole thing turned out wonderfully, but the kitchen scene in particular. I had included in the stage directions, 'He pulls her up onto the counter, he shoves things off the table,'" she explained. "I made sure to include it all, so I was adamant about not losing the steam and sexiness. I purposefully wrote it and I want it to be included."
A Cowboy Christmas Romance premieres on Lifetime Saturday, December 9, at 8 p.m. ET.
