The James Cameron Avatar series cast is set to reunite for work on the franchise soon. Sam Worthington, the series star, revealed to People that the cast will be returning to work "in a month," and he expressed that the upcoming production will be significant. "It's going to be bigger than you can even imagine," he said.
Post-production for Avatar 3 is already underway, with a release date set for December 2025. Live-action scenes for Avatar 4, scheduled for 2029, have been filmed, but the remaining work still needs to be completed. James Cameron mentioned that Avatar 3 is proving to be a "much more straightforward" movie to make compared to The Way of Water, due to the pandemic disrupting schedules for the latter film.
The Way of Water, released in December 2022, raked in $2.3 billion at the box office, making it the third highest-grossing movie worldwide of all time, following only Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion) and the 2009 original Avatar ($2.92 billion). Cameron's 1997 movie Titanic ($2.26 billion) holds the fourth spot, solidifying Cameron's achievement of having three of the top four highest-grossing movies of all time.
In other news, Ubisoft's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora received positive reviews upon its release in 2023.
