Avatar Franchise Takes Over a Decade to Reach Conclusion with Delays in Release Dates

Avatar fans will have to wait a bit longer as the franchise's plans extend into the 2030s A new behind-the-scenes image hints at what's to come in the highly anticipated sequels to James Cameron's groundbreaking film

Following the box office triumph of Avatar: The Way of Water, producer Jon Landau has unveiled a fresh behind-the-scenes still from Avatar 3, while also confirming that the release dates for all three sequels have been pushed back. After director James Cameron's most recent installment, it was announced that the Sully family's story would continue across three more films, with the first projected to hit theaters in December 2024. Initially, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 were scheduled to debut in 2026 and 2028, respectively. However, a recent report from THR has revealed that all three films have been postponed. Avatar 3 is now set to be released in December 2025, while Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 are slated to hit theaters in December 2029 and December 2031, respectively.
