A new addition to the Rune Factory series has been unveiled by Marvelous, drawing inspiration from the popular game Genshin Impact. The series has gained renewed popularity in recent years with the re-release of Rune Factory 4 Special and the launch of Rune Factory 5 in 2020. The third numbered game in the series is also scheduled for release in September for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. Marvelous provided fans with a glimpse of what's to come in a recent game showcase, which featured several upcoming titles, including an urban fantasy RPG called Loop 8: Summer of Gods, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, and the aforementioned Rune Factory 3 Special. Additionally, the presentation revealed a new game in the Rune Factory series.
Suminobu Sato, Marvelous' CEO and President, and Rune Factory series director Shiro Maekawa hosted the presentation, where Maekawa unveiled the trailer for the highly-anticipated Rune Factory spin-off game. The trailer showcased two eastern-style dragons soaring through a storm, highlighting an open-world environment and hack-and-slash gameplay. While the character designs may draw comparisons to Genshin Impact, the game's unique Japanese-aesthetic sets it apart from past Rune Factory entries. Tentatively titled Rune Factory: Project Dragon, the game explores the eastern lands and introduces new characters and gameplay mechanics, while still incorporating beloved elements such as daily living, adventuring, and romancing NPCs.
The Rune Factory director unveiled Rune Factory 6, featuring a sneak peek of the game's logo. Set in a Western continent called Adonea, it differs from Project Dragon. Maekawa concluded the presentation by assuring fans that the team is dedicated to creating these titles and encourages them to stay tuned for further updates. Rune Factory: Project Dragon is presently in the developmental stage.
