Princess Kate Middleton visibly recoils at the mention of Meghan Markle's name, as revealed by author Omid Scobie in his new book Endgame. Scobie also shares that Kate and Meghan have had very limited direct communication since 2019, with only brief exchanges of pleasantries over the years.
The book states that there is no hope for reconciliation between Kate and Meghan. Additionally, the Princess of Wales has no intention of repairing her relationship with Prince Harry. Although it initially seemed like Kate and Meghan quickly became friends when they met in 2017, rumors of a rift between them began circulating the following year.
Ahead of Meghan's wedding to Harry in 2018, there were widespread reports about a dress fitting for Kate and Prince William's daughter, Charlotte, that went wrong. According to rumors, Kate left the fitting in tears. However, during a tell-all interview in 2021, Meghan disclosed that "the reverse happened."

Meghan called the moment “a turning point” for her with the royal family.
"Shortly before the wedding, she became upset about the flower girl dresses, which really upset me. It hurt my feelings," Meghan stated. "While she was upset about something, she took responsibility for it and apologized. She even brought me flowers and a note to make amends. She did what I would do if I knew I had hurt someone, which is to own up to it and apologize."
Meghan expressed that the most difficult part was moving past being blamed for something.
"Everyone at the institution was aware that it wasn't true," Meghan stated. "I am not sharing that information about Kate to speak ill of her in any way. I believe it's crucial for people to know the truth."
According to Scobie's book, Kate "remained silent" as the story unfolded in the public eye. Despite offering an apology, "the damage from the public disagreement had already been done."

Meghan and Harry's announcement to step back from the royal family in January 2020 seemed to have dashed any hope of a reconciliation between Meghan and Kate. According to a source, the two women had "not spoken since" the drama began. In February 2021, Harry and Meghan made their departure from the royal family permanent.
In the years that followed, more insight into the issues between Meghan and Kate has been shared by the couple. Harry, for his part, revealed his side of the past wedding drama in his Spare memoir, which was released earlier this year.
