During a recent appearance on the BBC Radio 1 show Going Home, Prince William and Princess Kate were asked about their frequently used emojis. When William, 41, jokingly inquired if this was a suitable topic for all audiences, he revealed his hesitation to mention the eggplant emoji, thus prompting him to choose a different option.
Aubergine, also known as eggplant in British English, is commonly referred to as the fancy term.
"It would have been the aubergine, but now I'm going to be more mature about it. It's the emoji with the eyes moving up and down and the mouth sticking out," William added. "Which one is that? The slightly eccentric one."
The hosts of Going Home, Jordan North and Vick Hope, found the prince's answer incredibly entertaining. North, 33, exclaimed, "His choice of the aubergine emoji is absolutely brilliant!" Meanwhile, Hope, 34, chimed in, "He definitely knows what he's thinking." Kate, on the other hand, had no trouble giving a response suitable for all ages. The Princess of Wales, 41, shared, "For me, it would probably be the heart followed by the crying emoji, representing hysterical laughter when things go wrong."
Although William and Kate made light-hearted jokes about their texting habits, their visit coincided with a significant event: World Mental Health Day. The couple cohosted a forum in Birmingham, England, where William shared his personal advice for maintaining mental well-being. He emphasized the importance of humor, stating that laughter is often the most effective remedy for him.
"The role of humor in my life is significant - I thoroughly enjoy laughing," elaborated the Prince of Wales. "Occasionally, focusing on the lighter aspects of life is necessary to experience a sense of well-being."
He further mentioned his enjoyment of taking walks to get some fresh air and ensuring he takes breaks from screens. "Spending time with my friends and family," he emphasized, "holds great significance to me."
Regarding Kate, she expressed her inspiration by witnessing a significant number of young individuals opening up about mental health, which had been stigmatized for years.

"Today marks a significant shift as more individuals are finding the courage to openly discuss their mental well-being, unlike any era before. This progress is truly commendable," she expressed during the interactive panel. "Prince William and I are continuously motivated by observing the younger generation, such as all of you present here today, leading the way—showing extraordinary bravery by engaging in these important dialogues. As a collective, you prioritize and converse about mental health more than any previous generation—something we deeply respect and support."
