Ross Mathews is looking forward to a special viewing of ET with his friend Drew Barrymore and her family. He shared, "I’m going to watch it with her and her girls." Mathews, 44, missed watching the film when he was born in 1979 because his older brother never wanted to rewatch movies.

Ever since Mathews joined The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020, he and Barrymore, who is 49 years old, have developed a close friendship. Mathews shared with Us how much he admires her and how people often mention to him about a kind interaction they had with Barrymore.

He expressed to Us that now that he works with her, he struggles to watch her movies. Mathews explained, "Because I just think to myself, 'Why is Drew acting like somebody else?'"

Barrymore's big break came when she was just 7 years old, starring in Steven Spielberg's classic film. The movie, which premiered in 1982, introduced Barrymore as Gertie, the lovable younger sister of Elliot (Henry Thomas) who befriends an extraterrestrial creature.

According to Mathews, everyone who has met Barrymore has a story to share about her. It's not just about meeting her, but the little things she does, like tying someone's shoes or pointing out if they have toilet paper stuck on their shoe.

Mathews praised Barrymore for her strong communication skills, which he believes is a driving force for her. He also attributes the success of the talk show to her passion, which resonates with viewers.

According to Mathews, the show may be seen as outrageous, ridiculous, and even cringy at times, leading to viral moments. However, he emphasizes that the show remains authentic and genuine, creating a real connection with the audience.

Mathews mentioned that one thing he and Barrymore share is their ability to be true to themselves without apology.

Barrymore decided to step away from acting to focus on her talk show. Yet, her daughters have motivated her to return to the spotlight.

"I think the girls are like, ‘Yeah, Mom, we’re doing great. If you want to go do that, go back and do things,’" Barrymore exclusively told Us earlier this month.

"So getting that permission from them was really huge and sort of opened up my mind, so we’ll see."
