In a recent interview with Wonderland magazine, Robert Pattinson revealed that in order to deliver great onscreen performances, he makes a deliberate effort to forget everything he has done before. The 37-year-old Twilight star shared that he enjoys approaching each new project with a mindset of being an amateur and tackling the challenge as if he were a complete beginner. This approach, he explained, allows him to fully immerse himself in the role and view the experience as a significant and exciting new endeavor.
Keoghan, 31, concurred with his The Batman co-star, noting the danger of being too familiar with the material, as it can lead to a loss of spontaneity and instinctive reactions that actors and directors value.
For Pattinson, the "nice thing" about starting fresh is the opportunity to avoid repeating what may not have worked in the past. "If something worked in a previous movie and you automatically want to do it again because everyone liked it, but then it doesn't work the next time, you're forced into reinvention," he explained.
Pattinson's "amateur" approach has allowed him to successfully portray a diverse range of characters, from Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter to Rev. Preston Teagardin in The Devil All the Time, as well as romantic roles in Remember Me and Water for Elephants. Despite earning accolades and a dedicated fan base, Pattinson admitted that he has learned to leave behind a character once filming is complete, feeling detached in a positive way.

Pattinson's role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise continues to be a topic of discussion among fans, despite his preference to move on from his past work. The original film's director, Catherine Hardwicke, recently disclosed that the film studio initially had doubts about Pattinson's suitability to portray the 100-year-old vampire. "They called me back and asked if I could make this guy look good," the 68-year-old director shared on the November 20th episode of the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast. "I reassured them, pointing out his cheekbones and mentioning plans for a makeover and exercise regimen that would transform him into a gorgeous character."

Pattinson, who is currently expecting his first child with girlfriend Suki Waterhouse, initially had doubts about his casting. "I never really quite knew how to play a vampire though," he confessed to W Magazine in September 2017. "I mean, if it hadn’t been so successful, I think people would have thought it was really weird. It’s a really weird story. But I think once it becomes mainstream, it’s difficult for people to see how strange the story is."
He also shared that filming the Twilight series was "really fun" and described it as a wild experience. "And what a strange way to spend my early twenties."
