Below Deck viewers have eagerly awaited Jill Zarin's much-anticipated appearance, and she certainly lived up to expectations.
In the episode airing on Monday, April 1, Jill, who is 60 years old, made a guest appearance on the latest charter. It didn't take long for her to make her presence known, as stewardess Barbie Pascual was the first to feel the brunt of Jill's high expectations. The former Real Housewives of New York City star was quick to voice her dissatisfaction with her drink.
"I have to be honest, this ice machine is not the greatest. Let's get rid of it," Jill mentioned to Barbie, who managed to discover a different type of ice. "This is nugget ice. I only care about my Diet Cokes. I just pop them in the freezer."
Barbie later shared her first impressions of Jill in a private conversation, saying, "Jill always puts herself first. She can be a bit too much sometimes."
Jill was also disappointed with the bathroom setup on the ship, St. David.
She shared with Barbie, "I've chartered many yachts before, and every bathroom is stocked with toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and bandaids. Has anyone ever mentioned that before? Even Tums for those who may not feel well. It would be great to have Tums in the bathroom."
Jill explained that she was sorry for being a complainer and asked about the chocolates on the pillow.
Barbie tried to calm Jill down by informing chief steward Fraser Olender that Jill had expressed her belief that yachts should have all the amenities and described her as difficult.
Barbie shared her frustration on camera. She found the guest annoying and too demanding, labeling her as a freeloader. Barbie expressed the need for another stew just for Jill.
Jill received a special basket of toiletries, which she felt was rushed by the crew. On the following day, Jill raised concerns about timing.
"It’s a huge boat. They can’t always be around. But sometimes, for example, if you want hot sauce for your meal, you don’t want to wait too long because it will get cold,” she explained to the other guests.
Jill went on to share more about her experience with Fraser, “Can I suggest something for the yacht? On my previous one, there was a button for the main area that worked like a doorbell. I used to ring it to get the attention of the kitchen staff.”
Fraser felt overwhelmed by Jill's high demands, as if she was invading his thoughts and draining his energy. Later that day, Fraser was on land getting ready for a beach event, unaware that lunch was not going according to plan.
During a conversation with Barbie, Jill expressed her concerns about the food service. She emphasized the importance of having food available throughout the day, even though Fraser had requested it in his preference sheet. Jill admitted to being assertive, but her main goal was to ensure everyone's satisfaction.
Chef Anthony Iracane tried to accommodate everyone's dietary restrictions for lunch, but there was confusion. As a result, some guests received their meals promptly while others, like Jill, had to wait longer.
Jill expressed her dissatisfaction with her cold burger to her friends, urging them to be honest with the chef about their meals. She believed it was better to know the menu in advance so adjustments could be made for a better dining experience.
Anthony felt like Jill was taking control of the boat, saying she acted like a captain. Barbie expressed her strong dislike for a particular Housewife during a phone conversation.
Fraser spoke with Jill about the situation, and she reassured him that the issues were not as serious as they seemed.
When you're unsure of what's happening and your food arrives late or cold, it can be frustrating. It's important to address the issue and learn from it so it doesn't happen again.
After dealing with multiple demands, Anthony was reminded by Captain Kerry Titheradge that their main priority should be serving their primary customer, who in this case wasn't Jill.
Kerry pointed out that Jill is causing too much distraction and we should be focusing on the primary instead. It's important to stay aligned with the primary's wishes to avoid making mistakes.
Before Jill appeared on Below Deck, Kerry and Fraser joked about the upcoming challenging charter.
Fraser exclusively told We in February that although she is sweet, lovely, and funny, she can also be demanding. He mentioned that all charter guests tend to have their preferences and can sometimes be frustrating.
Fraser also shared that Jill's craziest request was regarding the ice. Jill only liked a specific type of ice from a specific freezer, so they had to make sure to have a special ice box that followed her wherever she went. Despite the unusual request, Fraser found it amusing and believed that as long as that was their biggest concern, everything should be fine.
Below Deck season 11 airs on Bravo Mondays at 9 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
Editor's P/S:
Jill Zarin's appearance on Below Deck was highly anticipated, and she certainly lived up to expectations. Her high expectations and demanding nature were evident from the start, as she voiced her dissatisfaction with the ice machine and the lack of amenities in the bathroom. Stewardess Barbie Pascual bore the brunt of Jill's complaints, finding her to be annoying and too demanding.
Despite her initial frustrations, Jill's concerns led to some positive changes on the yacht. Her suggestion for a doorbell-like button to summon the kitchen staff was implemented, and the crew became more attentive to the guests' needs. While Jill's demanding nature could be seen as a negative, it also resulted in improvements that benefited everyone on board.
