Renee Rapp, 23, has landed the role of Regina George in the musical adaptation of Mean Girls, and she was thrilled to receive praise from Rachel McAdams, who originated the character in the 2004 film. McAdams, who portrayed the wealthy and popular mean girl, stated that Rapp was the perfect choice to revive the role in the upcoming movie.
"I have complete faith in her abilities," McAdams, 45, expressed. "She is truly incredible. Her voice surpasses mine, and I am eager to see her take on this fantastic character. It's a delight to portray and I hope she enjoys the experience. I can hardly wait to see her performance."
Rapp was thrilled as she watched the video of McAdams praising her.
"She’s incredibly awesome. She’s so talented. I saw this and I was totally thrilled," she told ET. "I admire her. I’m completely fixated on her."

Rapp, who played Regina in the Mean Girls Broadway musical from 2019-2020, shared that she feels she has grown since her time on stage.
“I was 18, 19 when I did it on Broadway, and now I’m 23, 24, so I’ve changed a lot," Rapp explained. "I also believe that acting in film is more suited to my style. I enjoy the intimacy and the subtlety that you don't always get on stage."
Rapp aspires to replicate McAdams’ portrayal in the original Mean Girls, and she expressed to People in April that she admires not only McAdams’ acting skills but also her personality.

"Rapp praised her, saying, 'She's absolutely incredible. She exudes such grace, which I think is the biggest contrast between us. She's very composed and polished, while I am more laidback and candid.'"
After a year, Rapp departed from the Broadway show and revealed to The Guardian in August that she had experienced bullying and body-shaming from others in the production.
Rapp shared that during the production, "people would say some vile comments to me about my body." She also opened up about her battle with an eating disorder, which added to the challenges of being the lead in the Broadway show.

"Eating disorders aren't something that just disappear and suddenly you're cured, like 'Oops, I can eat again, hehe!' It's something that lasts a lifetime," she stated. "There are struggles with addiction and other challenges everywhere. I still face difficulties with it, but at least my parents know that I've been removed from environments that were extremely detrimental to my illness, which is fantastic and a major victory."
Mean Girls will open in theaters January 12, 2024.
