Netflix’s synopsis describes a universe where the powerful government of the Mother World is corrupt. The moon of Veldt faces a threat from the Imperium, which is the army controlled by Regent Balisarius on the Mother World. Kora, a former member of the Imperium looking for redemption for her involvement with the oppressive government, takes on the responsibility of recruiting warriors from different parts of the galaxy. Their purpose is to confront the forces of the Mother World before they return to the planet. Sofia Boutella is expected to portray the central character, a young woman, who forms a team of heroes to thwart the villainous plans of Ed Skrein.
In July 2021, Zack Snyder expressed to the Hollywood Reporter, "I have dedicated the past two to three years to expanding this universe. No detail has been overlooked. I have been creating designs, consistently sketching, and nurturing the rich soil to bring this world to life."
Furthermore, Snyder disclosed to Empire that Rebel Moon was initially intended to be a Star Wars film. He approached Lucasfilm with his concept, but ultimately chose not to incorporate any existing characters from the franchise, preferring to embark on his own independent endeavor instead.
Additionally, Snyder's desire for Rebel Moon to receive an R-rating did not align with Disney's approval, as they had acquired Lucasfilm during the time of his pitch. Fortunately, Netflix stepped in and became the ideal platform for his spectacular science fiction saga.
