Learn all about Zack Snyder's Netflix sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, including its release date, trailer, cast, plot, and more. After his work in the DCEU, which included films like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, Snyder has joined forces with Netflix for various projects, including Army of the Dead and the upcoming Rebel Moon.
The movie is already being compared to the Star Wars franchise and is expected to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023, as well as a popular holiday release on the streaming platform. If you're as excited as we are, here's all the information you need to stay updated on Rebel Moon.
Rebel Moon release date: When is it coming out?
Netflix is set to premiere Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire on December 22, 2023, followed by the release of Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver on April 19, 2024.
The production of the two-part space epic commenced on April 19, 2022, and concluded on December 2. It was filmed consecutively, and in addition to its theatrical release, Zack Snyder's venture into space warfare will be showcased for a limited duration. The initial conceptualization of the film was presented to Star Wars executives during the prequel era, with inspiration drawn from Akira Kurosawa's adventures. However, it underwent a metamorphosis and evolved into the Netflix space opera we are familiar with today.
Zack Snyder's enthusiasm and dedication were apparent to Ori Marmur, co-leader of Netflix's originals studio film group, and Kira Goldberg. Snyder's long-held vision for this film resonated deeply with him.
Having primarily worked on other studios' intellectual property, Snyder's collaboration with Netflix on "Army of the Dead" was a game-changer. They achieved what others couldn't by not only creating a film but also a prequel and even launching a live experience.
“
Is there a Rebel Moon trailer?
With Rebel Moon, the aim was to push the boundaries once again. Upon witnessing the vast scale of the universe he built, it became apparent that dividing it into two parts would be more effective than presenting it as a single film. This narrative has the potential for continuous expansion, and the creator envisions it as his own interpretation of producing something akin to Star Wars.”

Sofia Boutella is expected to portray the central character, a young woman, who forms a team of heroes to thwart the villainous plans of Ed Skrein.
In July 2021, Zack Snyder expressed to the Hollywood Reporter, "I have dedicated the past two to three years to expanding this universe. No detail has been overlooked. I have been creating designs, consistently sketching, and nurturing the rich soil to bring this world to life."
Furthermore, Snyder disclosed to Empire that Rebel Moon was initially intended to be a Star Wars film. He approached Lucasfilm with his concept, but ultimately chose not to incorporate any existing characters from the franchise, preferring to embark on his own independent endeavor instead.
Additionally, Snyder's desire for Rebel Moon to receive an R-rating did not align with Disney's approval, as they had acquired Lucasfilm during the time of his pitch. Fortunately, Netflix stepped in and became the ideal platform for his spectacular science fiction saga.
