During a Special Forces challenge, Nick Viall and Tom Sandoval decided to create their own rules. On the October 5th episode of the "Viall Files" podcast, Viall, 43, shared that Tom bet him $100 while they were on their way up. This side bet was not shown on the episode, but Viall agreed and they had $100 riding on the challenge.
During the episode of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test on Monday, October 2, the cast members participated in a challenging rappelling competition. The former Bachelor and the Vanderpump Rules star, both 41 years old, were paired together.
"On Thursday, Viall shared that Tom and I raced down a wall. I was quite frustrated because technically, he won," Viall mentioned. "I felt cheated because if you watch closely - they did air it - towards the end, you can see me suddenly jerked and I came to a halt. I was descending the wall at such a high speed that the safety team had to intervene." Viall continued, "What they didn't show was when operative Mark "Billy" Billingham winked at me and said, 'You got scared and you stopped,' at the end."
Viall expressed his disappointment regarding the competition's loss, as he and Sandoval navigated the course swiftly. Despite going last, this fact was not broadcasted. He explained to his cohosts and fiancée Natalie Joy that going last provides an advantage, allowing one to observe how the previous participants performed. He also mentioned that there was limited guidance or preparation provided, with the instructions being simply, "Go figure it out, go do it."
Viall ultimately accepted his defeat and confirmed on the podcast that he promptly paid Sandoval after finishing the show and retrieving his phone. He mentioned that the payment was sent through Venmo and reassured, "I always honor my promises."
The Special Forces challenge took place at the top of a cliff, requiring participants to jump down before claiming victory. Viall recounted an incident where JoJo Siwa and Brian Austin Green raced, causing a dispute over the winner. While Brian reached the edge of the wall first, JoJo made it down to the ground safety team first. As a result, it was decided that participants needed to not only reach the edge of the wall but also descend onto the steps.
Sandoval had a slight advantage at the beginning of their heat, with Viall catching up later on.
"I was ahead of Tom by about 10 feet, and towards the end, I was thinking, 'Just keep going, no matter what,'" he explained. "When I jumped off, I felt a sudden tug in the air. Tom was laughing, and I laughed back, but when Billy said I backed out, I got really angry. I decided to ignore it and give a sly smile instead."
Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test airs on Fox Mondays at 9 p.m. ET.
