After becoming engaged on the finale of The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist are beginning their life together in Charleston, South Carolina. According to Gerry, fate seemed to have a hand in leading them to this new city. He had previously discussed moving to South Carolina with his family, and when he mentioned this to Theresa, she revealed that her son also lived near Charleston. This coincidence resolved any issues they had about where to live and how to merge their families.
Gerry, originally from Iowa, moved to Indiana upon retiring with his late wife, Toni, in 2017. Meanwhile, Theresa is from New Jersey.
They both have children and grandchildren whom they are eager to have visit. "We want to create a welcoming home that everyone will want to come to. Maybe even put in a pool so that they all have fun and enjoy themselves," Theresa expressed.
“Our daughters have become like sisters now,” Gerry added, with Theresa agreeing, “My daughter is grateful for gaining two more sisters. She already has a sister-in-law, but now she has two additional sisters.”
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, formerly married to Disney/John Fleenor, both have children from previous relationships. Gerry shares custody of his two daughters, Jenny and Angie, with his ex-wife Toni. Meanwhile, Theresa shares her son Tommy and daughter Jen with her late husband Billy, who passed away in 2014 after 42 years of marriage.
Gerry expressed, "When I looked at Jen, I couldn't help but think, 'She could be my own daughter.' She was so kind and sensitive to the situation, to her mom, and to me. The whole dynamic just clicked." Both of their families attended the live taping of After the Final Rose on Thursday and they will also be spending time together for Hanukkah later this month.
Gerry announced to People that they will be having a holiday dinner together with everyone. The upcoming wedding of Gerry and Theresa will also bring the Turner and Nist families together, and the event will be filmed for a televised wedding special scheduled to air on ABC on January 4, 2024.
“We’re determined to make it happen as soon as possible because, given our age, time is precious. As soon as we finalize the wedding arrangements, we’re tying the knot,” Gerry announced during Thursday’s AFR.

Before the event, Gerry had a conversation with his runner-up, Leslie Fhima, who expressed feeling blindsided after he chose Theresa, especially since he had previously told Leslie that she was The One.
Leslie expressed her deep admiration for your integrity and the value she placed on your words. "I didn't take them for granted. I took them and I put them in my heart," she remarked. "And everybody knows what you said on camera. But only you and I know it was said during the overnight. And I would never share that with anyone. It's our private time. But those words gave me 100 percent certainty that I was your girl. ... And your words just meant so much to me, and that's why I was blindsided. Because I wasn't sure how it changed or what happened."

Gerry expressed remorse and attempted to justify his behavior. "I apologize, Leslie. I truly am sorry. When I joined the show, I was prepared to eliminate contestants," he stated. "I thought you were the one for me, until I realized you weren't. You wonder where things went wrong, but it wasn't a mistake, Leslie. It simply worked out better with someone else. My heart led me in a different direction."
Leslie responded by saying that she doesn’t necessarily accept Gerry’s apology, but she “understand[s] it” and wishes him and Theresa the best.
