The In Studio Show
Rapper Action Bronson and Taylor Swift have more in common than meets the eye. They’re both esteemed artists. They both appreciate the finer things in life. And, ever since Swift began dating Tavis Kelce, she and Bronson have both been avid NFL fans.
"It's quite enjoyable to watch football," Bronson, 40, shared exclusively with We. He discussed Taylor Swift's newfound sports enthusiasm and his participation in Captain Morgan's upcoming Battle of the Captains and #FollowTheCaptain campaign. A lifelong New York Jets fan, Bronson hinted that watching NFL games becomes "even more enjoyable when the team is winning."
The Jets have struggled to achieve victory since Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in September during his fourth play as the team's quarterback. "I was there, man. I drove three hours, waited for two hours to get into the parking lot, just to reach my front-row 50-yard line seat," Bronson recalled. "Rodgers falls weird, my friend says, 'He's hurt, he's hurt.' The next play, Rodgers is out for the rest of the season. That's it."
He continued, "After that, we walked out. We really just left. Had some General Tso's chicken, my buddy had a couple of shrimp, and we bolted."
Recently, Swift has been experiencing the unique NFL journey of supporting a struggling team. Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs suffered consecutive losses to the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo Bills, but they are still anticipated to make it to the playoffs. Swift, along with the millions of new fans she has introduced to the sport, will continue to root for Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and the entire team.
There are varying opinions about how much attention the NFL gives to the relationship between Swift and Kelce, but Bronson believes it's a positive because Swift is bringing new fans to the sport. "It's great to have more people interested in the game," he said. "Football should be enjoyed by everyone. She really inspires a lot of people."
Bronson also expressed interest in collaborating with the "Anti-Hero" singer. "I admire Taylor Swift's ability to take charge of her career, and I hope to do the same," he said, mentioning his alter ego. "Dr. Baklava x Taylor Swift in the future. I'll be reaching a whole new audience, just wait and see!"
On Sunday, December 17 in New York City, football fans aged 21 and over can come and watch as Bronson proudly represents the J-E-T-S at the Battle of the Captains event. Super Bowl XLVI champion Victor Cruz, who played for the New York Giants from 2010 to 2016, will also be there to represent his team. It will be a battle to see "who is the real New York team?"
As part of the season-long “Follow the Captain” campaign, Captain Morgan is urging football fans 21 and older to visit FollowTheCaptain.com and @CaptainMorganUSA on Instagram. There, they can access enhanced game day experiences and have the chance to win incredible prizes, such as exclusive performances from artists like Bebe Rexha, a watch party in Arlington, Texas, or even a trip to Las Vegas to attend Super Bowl LVIII.
“I just love creating unique events and providing people with a different kind of experience,” Bronson shared with Us about the upcoming gathering. “We’re going to have an awesome watch party with food and two cocktails I’ve crafted. It’s all about unlocking codes and challenges, sort of like [The Legend of] Zelda. This game is like a mix of Zelda, man. And at the end, there’s the fantastic prize of potentially attending the Super Bowl.”
“This is a dream scenario for many people,” Bronson joked, “and even some aliens.”
Such imaginative thinking is a hallmark of Bronson’s music career (he released Cocodrillo Turbo in 2022, described by Pitchfork as a “hallucinatory, fuzzed-out journey into the wilderness”) and his food show, F—k That’s Delicious. He recently introduced the Wake-Up Captain cocktail on the FTD online series, “The In Studio Show.”

"I've been thinking, sometimes the games are on at 7 a.m.," Bronson revealed to Us, discussing how the NFL has scheduled games overseas. "You need a Wake-Up Captain. I recently got into espresso. I've been drinking coffee for the past year or two, and, I don't know, it's been really eye-opening and enjoyable. And the latest craze is the espresso martini, so why not add rum to enhance it and make it even more delicious?"
Bronson matched the beverage with a Cacio e Pepe Churro, stating that there is nothing quite like fried food in the morning. The churro recipe features a delectable blend of honey, cheese, black pepper, and the light dough of a churro to provide the energy needed to power through a day of games.
"I also appreciate a clever twist," he elaborated. "If you can create, appreciate, and innovate to make something remarkable, then that's the essence of it all. It's an art. It's all interconnected."
Bronson is happy to pursue his varied interests, even if they may not be considered trendy.
"I don't keep up with the latest trends," he explained. "I focus on things that are timeless. My work doesn't have an expiration date. Years from now, it will still feel new and exciting, like when you discover vintage vinyl records and realize what you've been missing out on all this time."
Bronson emphasized the importance of pushing boundaries as an artist, but advised against getting caught up in changing current trends. Rather than worrying about the state of modern hip-hop, he encouraged individuals to focus on their own personal growth and strive to be the best version of themselves.
"Why concern yourself with what others are doing?" he questioned. "There's no need to change just because someone else is doing something. Simply stay true to yourself. I have various hobbies and interests, and music and rap came to me as a natural talent. My passion was initially in the culinary arts, and I consider myself a professional in many different areas. I remain dedicated to my craft and stay true to myself."

Bronson explained, "This is why I'm not the most popular artist globally, but if I solely focused on that, I could have been. However, that's not what excites me. What excites me is simply waking up in the morning, breathing in the fresh air, and feeling the warmth of the sun. I'm just a simple man, bro."

Bronson’s surprise career in rap has been a game-changer, and he’s determined to make the most of it. “I plan to go full throttle until I have nothing left, because I believe I have so much to offer,” he shared with Us. “But it has to be on my terms. I can’t do it any other way.”
