During the latest episode of her "Broad Ideas" podcast, Rachel Bilson, 42, candidly discussed her experience with pregnancy losses and the emotional pain of miscarriages, revealing her journey of "relinquishing control."
The former cast member of The O.C. clarified that she didn't carry the baby for very long before experiencing her miscarriages. She mentioned that they occurred early on. Bilson had a conversation about this difficult topic with cohost Olivia Allen and their guest author, Libby Weintraub. Weintraub, on her part, wrote a book titled "She Was Born: Words on Loss and Liberation" to share her personal journey of going through a stillbirth and multiple miscarriages.
During their conversation, Bilson emphasized the importance of a pregnant woman's ability to adapt to unexpected challenges during her birthing process, acknowledging that the possibility of loss is a significant concern.
Bilson expressed, "From birth, I had the mindset of being open to any outcome." She recalled knowing all along that she would opt for a hospital birth and would not consider a home birth.
According to the Hart of Dixie actress, it is crucial to begin surrendering control during the planning phase. She emphasized the multitude of responsibilities that come with having children and acknowledged the unpredictable nature of pregnancy. "How can you make plans when the outcome is beyond your control?" she pondered.
Despite facing challenges during her pregnancy, Bilson welcomed her only child, Briar Rose, in October 2014 with her then-partner Hayden Christensen. In September 2017, we confirmed exclusively that Bilson and Christensen, who was 42 at the time, ended their relationship after being together for nearly 10 years.
Since then, the former couple has focused on co-parenting their 8-year-old. In December 2020, Bilson exclusively revealed to Us that their family dynamic has been going well. She mentioned that having another home for their daughter to go to has actually been helpful. Overall, the situation has been positive.
Bilson, on the other hand, scored major cool mom points with Briar earlier this summer when she treated her little one to a Taylor Swift concert.
"We actually didn't stay for the whole show. Briar's friend Aria was really getting into 'I Knew You Were Trouble' — she was loving it — and then suddenly, she just sat down and fell asleep," Bilson shared on an August episode of her "Broad Ideas" podcast. "The people around us found it adorable and started laughing. Briar wanted to stay until the end, but her two friends had enough. So we decided to leave early. Briar was pretty upset about it. She was really angry."
Despite their disagreement about leaving early, Bilson and Briar had a wonderful time together. "The concert was absolutely incredible," raved the actress. "Taylor is simply amazing, I have so much admiration for her." She confessed her obsession, stating, "It was such a cool experience, especially since it was Briar's first concert. I can't help but wonder, where do we go from here?"
