Now that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been available for some time, attention is shifting towards the future DLC and how it may draw inspiration from its predecessor, particularly The Champions' Ballad boss fight. Breath of the Wild introduced DLC that provided players with new shrines, quest lines, and a new Divine Beast, ultimately rewarding them with the Master Cycle Zero. One of the standout additions was hailed as one of Breath of the Wild's greatest boss fights.
Following the high standards set by Breath of the Wild's DLC, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom must deliver an equally if not superior experience compared to The Champions' Ballad. This could entail introducing a new dungeon, a new sage, and most notably, a new boss fight. While Tears of the Kingdom has already improved upon its bosses in response to the criticism received by Breath of the Wild, it must also maintain this momentum in its DLC. To achieve this, it could take inspiration from The Champions' Ballad by subverting player expectations with a battle against a familiar yet unexpected adversary.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Monk Maz Koshia Was The Perfect Boss
Upon completing the fifth Divine Beast hidden beneath the Great Plateau and nearing the conclusion of The Champions' Ballad DLC, players will confront an unexpected final adversary. Familiar with the sight of mummified Sheikah monks encountered after solving shrine puzzles, players may have become desensitized to their presence. Therefore, they likely overlooked the significance of approaching yet another monk, anticipating a mundane shrine completion. However, the plot twist in Maz Koshia's boss fight was masterfully executed.
Set amidst a striking sky island backdrop, reminiscent of Tears of the Kingdom, and accompanied by a thrilling battle theme, Maz Koshia proved to be a memorable boss due to its challenging and aggressive fighting style, potentially surpassing the abilities of the Yiga Clan. The subversion of expectations during its introduction only heightened the intensity of the encounter. With its formidable difficulty and enticing rewards, the Maz Koshia boss fight served as a fitting conclusion to The Champions' Ballad.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Could Have A Secret Boss in Rauru
In order to parallel the boss fight of the Breath of the Wild DLC, Tears of the Kingdom would need to overcome not only the challenge of surprising players again but also finding a suitable replacement for Maz Koshia. Unlike the Sheikah mummies found in Breath of the Wild's shrines, Tears of the Kingdom's new shrines feature statues of Rauru and Sonia. However, this could create a potential connection for a potential Tears of the Kingdom DLC to provide players with a boss fight that is comparable, and possibly more challenging, with an opponent who exceeds expectations.
Despite playing a significant role in Tears of the Kingdom's story and gameplay, Rauru is rarely given the opportunity to fully display his fighting abilities, except through a few flashbacks. Nevertheless, these glimpses suggest that he possesses almost god-like power and raises questions about his combat prowess during his peak. The Tears of the Kingdom DLC could utilize its shrines and time travel mechanics to bring Rauru into the future as a secret boss battle. This would serve as the ultimate test of strength for Link, determining if he is truly prepared to face Ganondorf. If Link can defeat Rauru, then he may finally triumph over The Demon King.
