Sony has added a new PlayStation 5 dashboard icon for PS Plus Premium subscribers to identify which games can be streamed via cloud streaming.

For PlayStation 5 users to access the cloud streaming feature, a PS Plus Premium subscription is required, along with a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps.

Sony has introduced a new dashboard icon for PlayStation 5 users who subscribe to PS Plus Premium. This icon helps them identify which games are available for streaming. The addition of this icon is part of SIE's efforts to enhance its cloud streaming feature before its release in North America.

The release of PlayStation 5's cloud streaming feature has been highly anticipated. PlayStation 5 owners may remember hearing rumors about this feature coming to the popular gaming console, along with Discord integration. While the Discord integration was launched earlier this year, it wasn't until October that SIE confirmed the release of the cloud streaming feature for PlayStation 5 in North America on October 30, with Japan and Europe receiving it first. During this announcement, SIE Content Communications Senior Director Sid Shuman shared that a variety of games, from PlayStation 1 to PlayStation 5, along with game trials and digital PlayStation 5 games from the libraries of PS Plus Premium subscribers, would be available for cloud streaming.

To enhance the gaming experience for PlayStation 5 users and provide clarity on game compatibility with the PlayStation 5's cloud streaming feature, SIE introduced a new icon in the console's user interface. Starting from October 30, PlayStation 5 owners in North America will notice a cloud-like symbol with a PS Plus logo beneath their games. Games featuring this icon, such as Genshin Impact, NieR Replicant, and Cyberpunk 2077, are accessible through cloud streaming. Additionally, players have the option to enjoy these games in resolutions ranging from 720p to 4K, subject to their internet bandwidth meeting the recommended requirements. For instance, Shuman suggests a minimum bandwidth of 52 Mbps for 4K cloud streaming and 38 Mbps for 1440p.

PS Plus Premium Subscribers Benefit from Game-Changing PS5 Update

Please bear in mind that PlayStation 5 users must have a PS Plus Premium subscription to access the new cloud streaming feature and view the new UI icon on their dashboard. Additionally, the functionality of the PlayStation 5's cloud streaming feature requires a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps. It is worth noting that PS VR2 games and disc-based PlayStation 5 games are not supported. Furthermore, only supported PlayStation 5 games available through the Monthly Games will be available for streaming as long as they redeem the game within the same month it is offered.

However, the upcoming introduction of the PlayStation 5's cloud streaming feature is advantageous for PlayStation 5 users with a PS Plus Premium subscription who are unable to upgrade their console's storage. While SIE provided the option for PlayStation 5 users to expand their console's storage in a recent update, this process may be costly and burdensome as it requires the appropriate SSD and technical knowledge for installation. This feature enables PlayStation 5 users to play games without the need for installation, freeing up storage for other games or applications.
