When the PlayStation 5 was released, it introduced several new features, some of which were well-received while others went unnoticed. On the positive side, the integrated PlayStation store has significantly improved the game purchasing process. On the downside, the accolades system was essentially a failure from the start.

Considering that the majority of users did not bother utilizing this feature, it is not surprising that PlayStation has decided to abandon accolades. Although the concept was admirable - allowing players to recognize others for being enjoyable to play with online - the feature was too time-consuming to access and interrupted the gameplay experience. PS5’s Accolades Section Should Be Replaced With PlayStation Stars’ Display Case

Despite being an unsuccessful experiment, PlayStation 5 PSN profiles still showcase the achievements players have earned. However, most players, even those who frequently play online games, tend to have empty profiles in this section, rendering it irrelevant. Unfortunately, since Sony has discontinued the accolades system, players are left with a useless section on their profiles. Nevertheless, simply removing it and moving on is not an ideal scenario.

To address this, Sony should consider updating the PSN profiles by removing the accolades feature and replacing it with something new. If accolades were to be removed without any replacement, it would necessitate redesigning the PSN profile user interface to avoid a glaring empty space. This would seem like an excessive effort, especially when a solution already exists. That solution is the PlayStation Stars’ Display Case, a novelty feature that is currently limited to the PlayStation mobile app and has not reached its full potential.

The PlayStation Stars service offers users a great opportunity to earn points through game purchases and challenges in both PlayStation exclusives and third-party titles. These points can be exchanged for PlayStation currency or collectibles, which can also be obtained by completing tasks in different games. Challenges include defeating bosses, solving puzzles, and conquering difficult game modes, rewarding players with adorable items to display in their own personal Display case.

However, the problem is that the Display case is mainly seen by the players themselves, as very few people actually check out their friends' profiles on the PSN app. The purpose of the Display case is to showcase PlayStation Stars achievements, but it loses its impact when it can only be accessed through a mobile app. This is why it is crucial for the Display case to be available on PS5 consoles, as it would instantly make the feature, and PlayStation Stars as a whole, more engaging and exciting to interact with.

Swapping out the inactive Accolades section of PlayStation profiles with the Display Case from PlayStation Stars would yield dual benefits for Sony. Firstly, it would effectively eliminate an unsuccessful feature that was present in the early days of PS5. Secondly, it would incentivize a greater number of gamers to join the PlayStation Stars rewards program. In order for PlayStation Stars to thrive, it is crucial for the program to reach a broader audience. Since relying solely on the mobile app may result in many players being unaware of the program's existence, incorporating Display Cases into PS5 profiles would serve as a perfect reminder to fans that PlayStation Stars is a worthwhile investment of their time.
