Prince William and British troops are preparing to commemorate King Charles III at Trooping the Colour through a special practice on June 10th. The 40-year-old Prince of Wales, who is also the Colonel of the Regiment since his father's ascension to the throne in September 2022, attended the event on horseback and conducted the formal review of the Welsh Guards for the first time.
As the military officers presented their plans for the annual event, the Duke of Cornwall assessed the situation before multiple individuals suddenly fainted. While standing at attention in front of William, one guard collapsed onto the street and was quickly carried away on a stretcher by four men. Another incident occurred when a trombone player in the Band of the Welsh Guards became woozy and fell down while playing his instrument, but he managed to stand up on his own a few moments later. Despite the extreme heat, the Duke of Cambridge commended the unit for their dedication and participation in the event through a personal note.
William expressed his gratitude to the soldiers who participated in the Colonel's Review despite the challenging weather conditions. In a tweet, he acknowledged their hard work and dedication in making the King's Birthday Parade a success.
The London parade was held on a scorching day where the temperature soared to a whopping 28 degrees Celsius (82.4 degrees Fahrenheit). Trooping the Colour is a yearly celebration of the reigning monarch's birthday, set to take place on the 17th of June, Saturday. The event involves a parade to Buckingham Palace and a military flypast, with prominent members of the royal family observing from the palace balcony. This year's celebration holds particular significance, as it marks the first Trooping the Colour in honor of Charles, 74, who assumed the British throne after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The official coronation ceremony was conducted last month, with William paying homage during the service.
During the coronation ceremony on May 6, the Prince of Wales, William, made a pledge of loyalty to Charles, his liege man of life and limb, adding that he would bear faith and truth unto him. The University of St Andrews alum then gave Charles a peck on the cheek. Following the crowning of the king and his wife, Queen Camilla, William and the Princess of Wales, along with their three children, appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony to greet the public for the first time since the coronation.
