The Gut Feeling update for Dying Light 2 brought a wealth of new content to the game, including significant changes to combat that align with the desires of the fanbase. Techland has long been known for their commitment to supporting their games and listening to their community, and this update is no exception. In addition to making dismemberment more gruesome and adding in gameplay mechanics like blueprints and weapon crafting, the update introduced gear transmog and the Pilgrim Outpost, which offers players a variety of rewards for completing daily and weekly bounties. This feature was designed with longevity in mind and should not be overlooked. Recently, Techland's senior PR specialist and publishing digital solutions lead discussed the creation and future of this community service experience.
Dying Light 2's Pilgrim Outpost: Its Creation and Purpose as a 'Cross-Franchise Experience'
According to Michalak, the Pilgrim Outpost serves as a central hub for communication among players, providing opportunities to explore new activities, take on fresh challenges, and connect with other enthusiasts of the Dying Light franchise. The immersive experience offered by Techland extends beyond the game itself, with the Pilgrim Outpost offering a "cross-franchise experience" that bridges the gap between Dying Light 1 and Dying Light 2. This is made possible by the enduring popularity of the original game, which has allowed for the integration of bounty rewards claimed in either game to be used for purchasing cosmetics in the other.
The Pilgrim Outpost was born out of the community's desire for a more expansive universe in Dying Light 2, as Michalak describes. In response to this request, Techland saw an opportunity to utilize the Pilgrim faction, which links the last remaining settlements in the game, to also connect players in the real world. This is why Spike takes on the role of the main character for the Pilgrim Outpost. As one of the first Pilgrims, Spike welcomes players to the outpost, explains its workings, and will continue to guide them through its growth in the future. The most exciting aspect of this feature is undoubtedly its vast potential for years to come within the community.
Dying Light 2's Pilgrim Outpost Has a Bright Future Ahead
Michalak didn't provide many specifics, but there are two potential features coming to Dying Light 2. The first is "Ranking Bounties," which Techland is currently developing. These challenges will be set for the community and will rank player successes. For instance, one challenge might involve killing as many of Dying Light 2's Volatiles as possible in a single night, with players being able to see their rankings. This introduces a competitive element to the community and provides fans with new ways to interact with the game. Additionally, completing these bounties will come with new rewards.
Techland has plans to create a fully immersive experience for fans of Dying Light 2, and a possible Mobile App in the future could help achieve this. While there was a similar app available for the first game, this new endeavor will be quite different. However, fans should not expect this anytime soon as it is a difficult task. Nonetheless, Techland is committed to supporting the game for several years with its community in mind, just as they did with the original game. In fact, franchise director Tymon Smektala has expressed a desire for Dying Light 2 to have the longevity of other popular games in the service game space like Destiny and Grand Theft Auto Online. Therefore, Pilgrim's Outpost is just one step towards achieving this goal.
Dying Light 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
