Techland, the developer of Dying Light 2, has announced that the release of DLC 2 will be delayed until 2024, disappointing fans who were expecting it before the end of 2023. Despite this setback, the studio's other post-launch plans for the game will continue as scheduled. Since the game's launch in February 2022, Techland has been dedicated to supporting Dying Light 2 with regular updates. The studio has a five-year plan in place to provide new content and DLC for the game until 2027, following the success of the original Dying Light. The first DLC expansion, Dying Light 2: Bloody Ties, was released in November 2022, with the second expansion originally planned for a 2023 release. However, news about the second DLC remained scarce throughout the first half of 2023, with the recent announcement shedding light on the reason for the delay.
Techland has announced that DLC 2 for Dying Light 2 has been postponed until 2024 to ensure the utmost quality of the story expansion. The development team will utilize this extra time to work on the new map and additional gameplay systems, which will be disclosed at a later date. Furthermore, Techland has reassured fans that they will continue to improve and enhance the game with free updates, adding "a few more things" before the release of DLC 2. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for the upcoming livestream on June 29, where significant updates and events will be disclosed. In the meantime, they can join Techland's official Discord server and submit their questions regarding DLC 2 for an AMA with franchise director Tymon Smektala on June 16.
The recent delay of Dying Light 2 may be a letdown for fans, but it could ultimately result in a superior game. Techland has been open about their efforts to improve the quality of their post-launch content, as evidenced by the recent Gut Feeling update, which introduced exciting new features and content for players to enjoy while awaiting the arrival of DLC 2. Given the criticism that the Bloody Ties DLC received upon launch, it's understandable that the studio would take their time to ensure that the next expansion is free of bugs and glitches.
Dying Light 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
