In Pikmin 4, players face the challenge of locating both Olimar and rescuing their fellow officers on an unfamiliar planet. This planet is fast-paced and teeming with marvelous discoveries and potential dangers. However, players are not alone in their endeavors, as they have a multitude of Pikmin and Oatchi by their side. Nonetheless, exploring the different stages will prove to be quite demanding.
This is where gear comes into play, as it offers a solution to this arduous task. Gear consists of various items that players can obtain, significantly easing their exploration during this search and rescue mission. Among these valuable gear options, the Headlamp stands out as a particularly crucial item that Pikmin 4 players should prioritize obtaining as soon as possible.
Where to Find the Headlamp
The Headlamp is one of the initial gear items that players can acquire. Prior to obtaining it, however, they must first find Russ, a scientist crew member. Once Russ is rescued, players can provide him with the gathered raw materials, enabling him to transform them into a range of helpful gear and items. The required amount of raw materials will vary, with cheaper gear costing as little as 20 or even less, while more substantial upgrades may require 100 or more. As players collect additional treasures and return them to the ship, they will unlock new gear and items for crafting.
The Headlamp can be created by using 30 raw materials. Once acquired, the Headlamp will be automatically equipped. Luckily, players have the option to equip multiple pieces of gear simultaneously. As depicted in the image above, three pieces of gear have been obtained and equipped. The effects of each equipped gear piece are outlined below.
Headlamp: Increases how much players can see in dark areas.
Tuff Stuff: Increases how much health players have
Treasure Gauge: Automatically detects nearby castaways and treasure.
What Does the Headlamp Do
When used in dark places such as underground areas like Sightless Passage, the Headlamp greatly enhances visibility in low-light environments. Without the Headlamp, players are limited to a small amount of light and are dependent on any available ambient lighting in the underground area they are exploring (which is typically insufficient). By equipping the Headlamp, Pikmin 4 players will have a more convenient and safer experience while exploring dimly lit underground caves.
Players have the ability to disable the Headlamp, similar to other equipment, but it is advisable not to do so as it would considerably impede the exploration of dark areas.
