In Pikmin 4, Pikmin play a crucial role, with each of the nine different types offering unique advantages. However, another valuable asset at the player's disposal is Oatchi, a delightful space pup. Serving as the seventh member of the Rescue Corps and a loyal companion to the playable character, Oatchi proves indispensable for resource gathering and dealing with hostile creatures.
Oatchi's versatility allows for various applications, and he grows stronger as time goes on. As players increase his Pup Drive, they can teach him new skills, some of which are exceptionally useful. While eventually all skills can be unlocked, players must carefully select which ones to prioritize at the beginning. Having an understanding of the most beneficial skills can greatly simplify the initial decision-making process.
Heal Lv.1 (3 Pup Drive)
Though it may be a bit pricey, it is crucial for players to prioritize teaching Oatchi the Heal ability as soon as possible. This skill allows Oatchi to restore its health while outside of battles, minimizing the likelihood of it being defeated and needing to return to the base for recovery. This is particularly advantageous during expeditions, as relying on Scrummy Bones to heal Oatchi consumes valuable resources, whereas Oatchi healing itself incurs no such cost.
Chomp Lv.2 (2 Pup Drive)
Although leveling up Oatchi's Buff skill may be more cost-effective, there is a valid reason behind it. When Oatchi carries items back to the base, players can often find themselves without enough assistance, especially since there are specific tasks that Oatchi performs better than Pikmin, especially the types of Pikmin available in the early stages of the game. Bearing this in mind, it is wiser to always keep the rescue pup nearby, thus increasing Oatchi's fighting capabilities makes the most logical choice.
Command Lv.2 (3 Pup Drive)
Inevitably, there will be times when players require Oatchi's assistance due to shortages of Pikmin. During such situations, being able to summon Oatchi to the playable character's position instead of having to return to base to retrieve him is extremely valuable. This is why the Command skill upgrade is considered one of the top skills for Oatchi in Pikmin 4. Pikmin 4 is currently only available for the Nintendo Switch platform.
