It has been a decade since the release of the previous main installment in the Pikmin series. Pikmin 3 made its debut on the Wii U and later on the Switch. Finally, Pikmin fans can now rejoice as Pikmin 4 has arrived. As in the previous iterations, players will be in command of a lovable army of creatures known as Pikmin. Utilizing these Pikmin, players must locate valuable treasures and aid endangered officers and civilians.
However, in addition to the search and rescue aspect of gameplay, Pikmin 4 players will also need to keep an eye out for resources that can facilitate their search and rescue missions. This is where the significance of raw materials comes into play.
How to Get Raw Materials
In Pikmin 4, players do not have to go out of their way to find raw materials. While exploring the new planet, players will come across large piles of light blue rocks, which serve as raw materials. The amount of raw materials in each pile will vary as players explore different stages, but these piles can be found throughout the game. Each pile of raw materials is accompanied by a value indicating its worth. To collect the raw materials, players only need to assign one Pikmin to pick it up and carry it to the ship. In the image above, 10 Pikmin would be required to collect the remaining raw materials. However, players have the option to allocate fewer Pikmin to this task if they so choose.
What Are Raw Materials Used For?
Once a pile of raw material is being harvested by one or more Pikmin, they will continue to collect from it until the pile is fully depleted. This allows players to easily assign a small group of four or five Pikmin to handle the task of gathering from the pile, while the remaining Pikmin accompany them to attend to other duties. Once the raw material pile has been completely harvested, the Pikmin assigned to it will wait by the ship for further instructions. Additionally, players can acquire raw materials by dismantling obstacles such as electrified barriers.
As players make progress in Pikmin 4, they will encounter an officer named Russ who can transform raw materials into valuable items and equipment. For instance, by utilizing 100 units of raw material, players can create a Scorch Guard for Oatchi, granting this loyal companion protection against fire. Furthermore, players have the option to equip a Scorch Guard, requiring only 50 units of raw material, which offers the same advantageous effect.
In addition to gear, raw materials can be utilized to craft items such as Scrummy Bones, which serve the purpose of healing Oatchi. Furthermore, these raw materials can be transported to the S.S. Beagle where they can be transformed into versatile clay. The highly anticipated game, Pikmin 4, is set to be released on July 21st exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
